I have just sold this car... I was sad to see it go but I have to get something thats a little more.. lets say "Mature" So I'm on the market for a Diesel.

Looking at the TDi VW Polo...

The residuals in the VW's are unbelievable. Pricey for a decent second hand car but I suppose that is due to the build quality.

Does anyone here own a Polo or a Polo Dune. Do they any major issues to consider in terms of reliabilty, apparently they have been lagging recently in various owner surveys... yet they still retain there reputation for both build quality and reliability.

Nice Trophy there ... lots of fun :)

If you're after a VAG diesel you can't go too wrong with a Fabia vRS.

Hoooof! Clio Trophy, absolutely awesome, I can fully understand you being sad to see her go! I do believe I remember your post on ClioSport when you were thinking about going over to the 'dark' side as it were.

As mentioned by BaJ, the Skoda Fabia vRS should tick all the right boxes, basically taking all the best bits of a VW but for less £££. BaJ & another member, Doll, own one, neither really have a bad word to say about them, they complete there job absolutely brilliantly.

I don't understand why you are doing this, it strikes me that you've not sat down and thought about it.

The saving you will make from owning a diesel will never make up for the cost of changing your car.

7 months and 6000 miles on and I'm liking my Fabia vRS more every day. As an all round package I can't thing of anything that gets close for the money. The equivalent Polo is £3k more for the same basic bits... and blue dash lights arn't worth it. :D

Depends if he's spending more than he sold the Clio for on a diesel car?

I sold the Trophy and bought a cheaper Diesel saving over £100 a month, plus the savings in petrol/diesel is massive due to the amount of miles I do..

Getting Polo Dune 1.4 TDi. Tested today... Im really please with the performance and mpg figures on this car. Has a nice seating position and has a little bit of a unique style when compared the other Polo's!!!

Im happy..

I have owned the

172 Cup
182 Cup Packs / Anthracites and Spoiler
And the Trophy..

I have loved every minute of ownership.. but it was time to move on.

How much did you sell the trophy for mate :) Something i want to look at next year mebbe :)

A whole £100 a month? Is that it? Is that really worth losing the fun of perhaps the greatest hot hatch of all time for a chronically dull diesel supermini designed for mothers and housewives who want a 4x4 but can't afford one?

It might have been time to move ON, but not DOWN.

I mean LOOK at it. It's like VW looked at the utterly pointless Rover Streetwise and thought 'My god, a jacked up Supermini covered in black plastic, we need one in our range too'.

The Polo Dune is not down, it's different.

OK, I'm no great fan of the Urban Assault Supermini but each to their own. I went for the diesel hot/warm hatch option instead.

blah blah blah......

its all about running costs... a petrol car just drinks and drinks, where a diesel does not. if it was to save £20 a week on fuel, then thats 20 better saved up or spent on something else.

People I know that had the 172/182s said that for the performance they get very good mpg.

The whole selling to get a new car just for a slight mpg increase isnt worth it surely?

Unless you get the car for free then thats completely flawed logic?
