Soooo having just this morning discovered some scotes have attempted to break into my home at some point in the last couple of weeks I feel I should probably secure the gate that leads into the back garden so they at least have to climb over it rather than simply walking through, it's already got a bolt (that obviously has been fitted in a position that can be accessed by simply reaching over the top) but I've not bothered securing it with a padlock before now, my shed also needs a new one to replace the cheap rusting one that I gave up locking last year as it's so badly rusted I'm not sure I'll ever get it open again lmao.

Don't want to spend silly money as it's only ever going to be a deterrent rather than something to stop a determined thief right? But I'd like something that isn't going to rust and be a pita to unlock if I don't use it for six months, any recommendations of what you are all using would be gratefully received :)

Similar issue to you, I added a bolt at the bottom of the door and there's no chance someone can fit their hand underneath. Perhaps either move the bolt lower down or add another one?

Most padlocks can easily break with enough force..

Now why didn't I think of that, just been and moved it, though the entire gate is in such a state that I'm not sure it'd hold up to somebody trying to climb over it lmao! Thanks!

I have a nice stainless Abus lock that I have had for 14 years now. Looks brand new and has been great. Search google for 'ABUS 90RK/50'.

If it’s just for a gate where the workaround is to climb over it, basically any padlock will do the job.

Just make sure it’s outdoor rated to it doesn’t rust shut after the first rain shower.
