Outdoor Team Build Ideas

Hey all, I'm helping plan a kind of team build day. The morning will be work stuff, but the afternoon is pencilled in to be more of a fun activity. We're in Central London and are very close to Hyde Park, so talk of just heading there to play rounders has been mentioned. I threw in the idea of an 'It's a knockout' type competition, which seemed like a popular idea.

I just wondered if anyone had any ideas for either 'Its a Knockout' type activities that don't involve inflatables or large equipment, or just general team build ideas that can be done in an hour or two outdoors, or specifically around London?

Thanks!

(If we can avoid the whole discussion around if you like team builds or not, thanks :p )

Yeah, I did wonder about that. It might take a far bit of prep though?

Maybe a simple find X and have a selfie with it. Or... going slightly harder, some questions giving a team a 'What 3 Words' location, that has a statue or something. Selfie with these points. That wouldn't be too hard to do, I guess.

Why does it have to be outdoors? Lack of budget so only free/cheap stuff you can do in parks an option?

If you do have some budget or people are willing to pay a small amount of money then you could consider things like go-karting (there are a few places in London catering to that though they're mostly indoors).

Mini golf (mostly indoors too)... (there's also an outdoor driving range in London with views of Canary Wharf)

Wakeboarding and/or paddle boarding - you can do this in Central London, in the Docklands.

A cooking/culinary course - learn to make sushi or perhaps do a deserts/cake-making course together... perhaps have a competition later too or have people use their new skills to bring a cake/deserts in each week following the course/afternoon.

Or as per the previous one some other craft-related course - learn to cut bonsai trees or something... would be quite cool if you can take stuff home too. I've done a butchery course before and came home with a load of chicken, sausages, lamb etc. and learned how to prepare a few different dishes/cuts and how to make sausages.

Some sort of VR experience? You all go and shoot zombies together in a warehouse with VR headsets.

I see loads of people doing "quizzes" out in the streets of the city, I'm assuming it's along the lines of riddles, collecting photos and so on.

If it were me, I'd book a couple of hours in one of those theme pubs (darts, axe throwing, golf) if it's during the day (when it will be quiet) and then book a space at a roof top bar somewhere.

Some great ideas, but I think more suited to a smaller group. I don't have confirmed numbers yet, but it could be anywhere from 20 to 40, which most indoor things likely wouldn't cater for and could also get quite expensive, quite quickly.

I've done something similar at the Tower of London, like a treasure hunt of sorts. I was expecting it to be more cringy than it was, it wasn't bad, then food and drinks laid on in a pub we'd booked out with prize giving etc. Pretty good day overall.

With sporting activities like Rounders, you need to be conscious of inclusivity if you have any people with disabilities (mobility, eyesight etc). I'm visually impaired and my worst nightmare is a team building exercise involving catching.

Hard pass from me unless I can take a shower afterwards (at the office, maybe?) before the inevitable team dinner.
