Outlast - New horror game

Looks like a must for me on 40" + 5.1 + controller and me home alone. will start at about 11pm tonight :D :D :D

I think ill hold off for machine for pigs and get this later, graphically though outlast looks loads better but it seems to borrow a lot from Amnesia so ill go there first

I don't think it borrows anything from amnesia. Everything in this game is more fluid and natural whereas in Amnesia it felt like you were playing a game. Outlast pulls you in with atmosphere and immersion in a way Amnesia couldn't. I got bored with Amnesia quickly yet cannot wait for night to fall so I can get back into this.

Honestly, beyond being stalked by patrolling enemies, the inability to fight back, and having a finite refuelled light source, the similarities are extremely few.

I really can't stress just how fluidly Outlast plays... I was gobsmacked from the first few moments. The feeling of being the character is so well conveyed, and the interaction with NPCs is something that was glaringly absent in Amnesia (and still appears to be in A Machine For Pigs), but Outlast nails it.

Best horror game I've played in a looooong time (and I'm a horror journo -- believe me, I play them all). Also got A Machine for Pigs pre-ordered, so I've got Outlast to scare me senseless this week, then Amnesia for next. Be still my beating heart! :D

Thats fair, youve played this i havent so i cant argue with your opinion bud

I however loved amnesia, what i ment by borrowing from it was the whole defenceless feeling and using hiding/running rather than combat to take on the scary things

Sounds good ill definitily get this soon for your reasons here

Ive not seen aamfp in action as i dont want to spoil anything so cant comment on its feeling or npc interaction however i feel it will be in the same vein as dark decent

Can you use a controller with this?

Yes, and IMO the better for it. Analogue movement and vibration feedback, ie. when you try a locked door, etc. Triggers for lean left and right, very nice control of your character. I'd hazard it was designed for use with a controller.

going to hook this up to my projector tonight and turn on the surround sound full blast! albeit only 720p projector but im pretty sure playing it on a 100 inch screen will be more atmospheric then my 27incher

Bought! Downloading now, ill play it tonight with the lights off with headphones on and using the xbox controller. Hope I don't get too scared im the only one home:p
