Outlook 2010 automatically applying filters to IMAP gmail accounts, okay or not?

So I'm messing around with Outlook 2010 and I couldn't see anywhere that mentioned how many emails are in the current folder view.

Then I noticed on the very bottom left it had 'Filter applied' no matter which folder I select from any of my gmail accounts.

When I click on it it looks like the only filter is in the 'Advanced' tab where it says:

'IMAP Status equals Unmarked'

With only the option to remove it and not edit it.

So anyway I ended up hitting 'Clear All' and remove it, and now Outlook displays the number of emails in a folder with the number of email unread. And more importantly when I search within that folder it updates me with the no. of items returned, which it didn't before.

So my questions really are what was that original filter? Why is it automatically applied to all of my gmail IMAP folders? Will I screw anything up by removing them? (I don't know how to reinstate that filter) Do I really need to do this manually for each folder as I'm currently running 7 accounts, all with a fair few folders in them :/
