One of the people in the office has a problem with their mailbox in Outlook Express.

Their mailbox account is receiving emails saying their account is full / closed.

I've taken a look at the inbox is 590mb, sent items 2.1gb. We've made a back up of all the associated outlook express files so all emails are saved on an external hard disk. We then started deleting about 2yrs worth of emails from both inbox and sent items but still we get that message appearing. I looked again in the email storage folder and despite the deletion of the emails from outlook express both the inbox and sent items read the same. Theres nothing in the deleted items either.

Any help on how to reduce these two inbox and sent items file sizes?

Hi,
You need to make sure you've deleted the emails out of the deleted items folder. Then run a Compact (from within Outlook Express) on all folders - this will shrink the storage folders.
Hope this helps.

Outlook Express is just a local cache.

You need to login to the POP/HTML account and purge them there.

For future reference there is an option in the account settings > advanced > delivery section "Leave a copy of the e-mail on the server" Untick this if you download to 1 PC only and do not want a copy stored online.

The server is clear of any emails. They are downloaded directly to the pc rather than left on our ISPs online inbox. That was the first thing that I had thought of before checking out other alternatives.

Just checked my collegues PC and the inbox has been reduced down to 197mb from 590mb after a compaction. Sent items is still up at 2Gb so I dont think she compacted all folders so hopefully thats got her inbox working again.

Thanks for the replies.
