Outlook goes into random send receive loop every so often?

This has only been happening the past few days. I'm using Vista x86 Ultimate and Office 2007/Outlook 2007.

Every so often, maybe 1 out of every three or four times I open Outlook up, it sends and receives fine and then when it is finished the "Send/Receive" box opens and it sends and receives in a loop over and over again, the percentage finished at the bottom rises very slowly. The only way to stop it is to CTRL+ALT+DEL and close OUTLOOK.EXE with the Task Manager. Then the next time you start Outlook up it runs a data file check as it tells you that "Outlook did not close properly the last time". Data check completes fine.

This is getting really annoying, had a Google of "Outlook send receive loop" and there doesn't appear to be any 100% solution or fix as far as I can see?. Just wondering if anyone had advice on what to try to sort this out.

I really don't want to have to uninstall/reinstall Office 2007 again but it looks like it might come to that if I can't fix this. HALP!!! :p

Will do. Also, is there an option in "Tools" that I can switch off so that it doesn't start to send and receive as soon as Outlook is fired up?. Because at the moment to even open it and get in there to have a dig around is a nightmare because as soon as I start it the loop begins. :(

Cheers, yeah its 2007 I'm using too. Will do that and see if I can then sort my accounts and contacts out. Ta.

God, that took forever!!. I deleted all the accounts and then added my main one back in again. But because I have "Keep a copy of the email on the server until deleted from deleted items" it downloaded duplicates of over 1200 email messages!.

So had to go back through them all and delete each duplicated email.

I'm not sure if it has solved the problem though, will keep an eye on it over the next few hours and see if it does the loop thing again.

Lol, I only meant remove them from the email accounts screen :p.

I thought that was what I did?. I went into Tools>>Accounts and then clicked "Remove" on the ones in there. Then put it back in?.

As far as I can tell I'm still getting the random send/receive loop though although it isn't as bad as previously because I only have one main email account in there instead of 5. Looks like I might need to uninstall Office ( or can I remove certain components of Office such as Outlook on its own and then reinstall it ? ).

If I do have to reinstall it, what do I need to backup Outlook wise so I can keep my sent and received emails for that main account?. The PST file, does that have both sent and received emails stored within?.

Rolled back to a previous Shadow Copy and touch wood it appears to be behaving itself so far.

I've backed up my PST just in case I need to reinstall it. To be honest I was thinking of switching to Windows 7 from Vista at some point soon so maybe this is the prompt I needed to get my finger out, back up everything and get on with it. :p

Quick question about backing up the PST. When I went to "Export" and set it to export to a PST file, it showed "Personal Folders" which I backed up but also "Archived" as well which I also backed up to a separate folder. Is that right?. When it comes time for me to "Import" do I just go through the process twice again and drop each of those backed up PST files back into their respective positions?.
