Hey

About a week ago I started getting failed delivery messages for emails that were being sent from my account with a Spanish heading and just a dodgy hyperlink as the message.

Some of the people they are being sent to are not coming out of my conventional address book, which I sync with my Nokia phone - they're people like my university housing agent who I haven't contacted in two years!

Quite a few are landing home, as my dad said he and his secretary have been receiving them - he clicked on one and said they are selling viagra!

I have Kaspersky 2009, which I updated and ran a full system scan - and nothing of any significance.

What can I do? I really don't want emails to start reaching potential employers (currently job hunting) and make the wrong impression!

I need to :
A) Get rid of this virus (or whatever it is)
B) At least find where it is getting the email addresses from and remove them from that source.

Thanks!

Alex

First thing to do is change your Outlook password from a different machine. If you have Kaspersky Antivirus then your key entitles you to upgrade to the 2010 version so grab this from their site and also download Malware bytes. Boot the machine into safe mode and run a full scan with Kaspersky and run Malware bytes as well.

Edit: Im not sure if you can change your outlook password from a different PC actually so check this out. I would suggest ditching Outlook and signing up to Gmail tbh.

It's quite possible you were compromised on another machine. Changing your password and secret questions etc. should work fine.

And tell your dad to stop clicking dodgy links in emails!

It will be your email account that has been compromised not Outlook. You need to change the password on the email server you use.

Andi.
