Hey guys,

Quick question. When i add a new AD account and Mailbox when i try to search their name on the global address book it cannot find it.

Although if i try anyone elses Address book, its found straight away. Only started doing this for a week or so?

Ta.

You need to add a contact as well as the mailbox afaik.

/edit, maybe not! last time i did this i had to setup external contacts so the user could forward mail to another mailbox.

Would seem to me that you really should have tried to reason why this didn't work rather than just disabling cached mode!

Turning cached mode off means that you no longer use an Offline Address Book (OAB) when sending to recipients, the OAB typically rebuilds once a day around 04:00 so wouldn't get any new recipients until it rebuilds. If the rebuild fails an event log is logged on the server in question usually, telling you why it failed.

Even in cached mode you can force Outlook to use the normal GAL to lookup recipients, if I recall rightly you can modify the default address books to use when sending emails under Tools > Address Books > Tools >Options. A few options for customisation here.

I like having cached mode on as if there is a problem connecting to Exchange you can still read your emails offline. If the Exchange server dies you still have a local copy of your messages as well in the OST... There are few downsides to having Cached mode enabled, one is the OAB, and the other is probably disk space taken up by your Mailbox.
