Hi,

I've been trying to output the TV onto a laptop so I can record and use the laptop a bit like Sky+.

I managed to get it the other way round with a S-Video lead (computer output onto TV) but couldn't figure out how to output the TV onto the laptop.

Is there any way I can do this using an S-Video (little round plug thing) plug? Or do i HAVE to have a TV card to get TV on a computer?

Thanks in advance :)
Craig.

Tvs cant output video and the laptops s-video connector is out only. So it wont work on 2 counts.

I don't know if your (or any) laptop has VIVO on their gfx, but if not (and I suspect not), you'll have to get yourself a video capture device, such as a USB TV tuner

Nope, the only thing to do with graphics on the back is the VGA screen plug and the round PS/2 style connector thing which I was able to use to output the screen onto the TV but that was no good.

I think I might put my second PC or the server PC by the TV and plug a TV card in to that and record using some TV program from the TV card (can't be bothered to wire a aerial through to my room :p).

Thanks for the help, I think the only way I'm going to do this is with a TV card.

Also did you mean VIVO as in the little yellow plug that's on some graphic cards?

Craig.

VIVO is video in/video out. basically you can use the same connector on the card to do both jobs dependong on which cable you connect to it. the VIVO cards do usually have a yellow audio connector near the power molex

If you mean something like the socket on the right here:

It's probably just the composite TV out (as opposed to the PS/2 style s-video)

Oh and because it's a laptop, I forgot, PCMCIA tv cards would probably look tidier than USB :)

Actually, I've just done some research and there are actually some laptops that have video in, but these would tend to be the 'media centre' type, such as the Toshiba Qosmio.

Hmmm, with the laptop I am able to use I don't think this is going to be possible :(

I think i'll just have to take a desktop PC downstairs to the TV and put a TV card in it and record like that.

Thanks for the help,
Craig.
