Outside Network Cable

Need to run some network cable outside the house from room to room, cant do it inside as i will have to lift floor boards and dont want to tack along the skirting. What type of cable do i need, its going to be about a 30 meter run point to point.

Exterior grade Cat5e will do it. Put a drip loop where it goes in/out of the wall.

if you plan on burying it I'd stick it in a length of hosepipe and bury that

Bit of an overkill, external grade is good for 10-15 years or so.

20mm blue or black piping, you can pick up 30mtr rolls cheaply, give you more protection against someone putting a spade through the cable.

Ideally bury it 12" down, will be pretty safe then.

Why would he need to bury it?? Just cable clip it to the wall.

Tried two different types of power lines, their performace was so bad this is why i want to cable them together

I used standard Cat5e 10 years ago and it's still fine but exterior grade is better if you can get it.

Just remember that at some point it will need replacing so don;t route it anywhere that will be a problem in future.

Whole idea of putting it in conduit, cable doesn't degrade,less likely getting damaged, out of sight.
Plus you could pull through a couple of Cat5e cables, for future proofing,or as a spare.

Someone asked me to do this for them last year, I told him the really cheap option was normal cat5e, £20 for a 100m roll. It's still working to this day, fully exposed to the elements

I just use regular cable, yet to have any issues even on runs I did 9-10 years ago.

Also used regular cable, have a run going through a gutter (which has become blocked sometimes submerging the cable ) and never had any problems. The run was put in 8-9 years ago.

Regular cat5e should last you years, especially if it's black.

Have some Cat5e lengths (4) under 12'' in the garden, 200ft each run. 12 years it still runs a gig link to the server inhouse . That i did run in some pipe
