OUYA android console

$120 (£78) for one delivered to the UK, for what sounds like the same spec as an HTC One X just without the Phone/3G parts...

Ive backed this project, as Nymins says it should make a decent little media player even if the games side of things aren't all that special.

Huge amount of funding in a short period of time.

Having said that Hardware specs won't be as impressive come next March (which is the earliest they say they can ship it).

For $130 ish I am sure there will be better Android devices (with newer software) by then. There will be better media players as well.

Oh yeah,

We're handing the reins over to the developer with only one condition: at least some gameplay has to be free. We borrowed the free-to-play model from games like League of Legends, Team Fortress 2, Triple Town, and many others. Developers can offer a free demo with a full-game upgrade, in-game items or powers, or ask you to subscribe.

Adverts (probably intrusive), and lots of them...

yay in app purchases, everyone LOVES those.

:)

In game Adverts and in app purchases are the bane of mobile (android and iOS) gaming imo.

While i'm moaning, how come so many games have this weird system where:

You win coins
coins buy pizzas
100 coins can be swapped in game for 10 pizzas
£4.99 buys 300 coins which you then have to convert to pizzas.

swap coins and pizzas for anything you want, but a lot of popular games on both platforms have this highly annoying common theme in them!!

Just give me a load of SNES style games and i'm in.
Games like Ghouls N Ghosts,Contra,Gradius etc.
Obviously I don't expect those actual games but 2d platformers or shooters would do me.

Thing is you can get plenty of these already, and have been able to for years. Ultimately clones of games always fail to meet expectations of their legit counterparts. Actual ports get boring after the nostalgia factor wears off.

You could spend £100 on PSN/XBLA/Sega Classics/NeoGeo/Wii store games and get more satisfaction right now, than waiting for this to appear in 9 months time.

ALTHOUGH, don't get me wrong, I like the idea of kickstarter and have contributed to 2 products myself and it's nice to keep track of the project and see the development process.

I couldn't see anywhere mentioning if it had a memory card slot. Does anyone know for sure? (Apologies if I just missed where it stated somewhere).

This system is being built so it can quite happily emulate those games if that's what you mean.

Surely it'll just be crappy games though? Mobile games are still way, way behind.

If compared to big budget games maybe. But surely this would be more comparable to XBLA and PSN games, of which a good number of mobile games are very comparable to (and in some cases ported directly to/from)?

There are plenty of excellent mobile games, though much more so on iOS than Android.

Really? I still find there's very few even on iOS to match the likes of the Trials games, 'Splosion Man, Braid, Limbo, Shadow Complex, Castle Crashers etc

Well, a lot will of course come down to individual tastes. But for me King of Dragon Pass, all the Cave shmups, Ascension, Chuchu Rocket, Plants vs Zombies, Waking Mars, Defender Chronicles, Beat Sneak Bandit, Ghost Trick, Machinarium and numerous others (some are exclusives, some ported from other platforms) are just as good as the better XBLA titles.

Could be a kickstarter record breaker if it carries on! I've plumped for one, way I see it it's open to hacking so offers up some funky options for peripherals etc and some mobile games are cracking fun and already there's a big benefit playing lots on a bigger screen so upping to TV size could be good if they get it right.

All 200 of the developer specials are gone which give early SDK access and early access to a rooted console which is a good sign as that's 200 developers signed up. A further 71 of the "Elite Developer" packs are also gone so assuming they have all gone to developers that's 271 potential game devs/companies already lined up.

I'm on the fence on this one, it really seems it could go either way, it really depends what happens to it once it gets released, but I'll be keeping an eye on it either way!
