not too sure if this is the correct section to post this. Will keeping the charger in after the battery is fully charged ruin the battery? and if so how? will doing it once affect it?

yes it will ruin the battery,

i don't exactly no how but its common knowledge with all laptops if you leave the psu plugged in even when fully charge it will ruin it. my iBook G4 is over 14months old and by unplugging it when its fully charged and plugging it back in when its nearly dead i still get about 6 1/2 hrs battery from it, the laptop we have here at work, when it was news 3hrs battery time its left pluggged in all the time now we barely get 15minutes if we are lucky :)

do what i do and just cycle the battery, best way :)

No...

It doesn't keep charging the battery when it's full!

It's fine to leave it plugged in. Yes, discharge and charge the battery a bit, but you don't have to religiously do it every time you use it. In fact, that'll shorten the battery life far more.

If you are going to be using any laptop from the mains for extended periods of time it is best to take the battery out.

I assume you don't know that Macbooks drop down to 1ghz with no battery in then? :)

Battery life is a thing of the past - almost.

Most new generation batteries are not very affected by the whole charging discharging thing - not for many years.

And once the battery is charged fully, the laptop does not keep attempting to charge it. I have laptops here that have almost always been plugged in - in 5 years, the battery might have been more than half discharged maybe 6-7 times, and it still has pretty much the same battery life as when I got it.

I assume the slightly lower battery life I get is due to the increased CPU usage with WinXP and assorted programs (as opposed to winME when bought). And maybe a small amount of battery wear.

The batteries have improved a lot since I got that laptop, so I dont think its going to be an issue.

My macbook capacity is 5154mAh at the moment (99%).

Tbh, I've never seen a battery list it's true capacity.

Have you calibrated your battery?
as per page 23 of the macbook manual.

well i do as i posted above and heres what coconut has to say about my battery

Yup, one of the first things I did.

When I charge the Macbook the charger often gets plugged and unplugged a few times due to the nature of the magsafe connector, you don't suppose it's damaging the battery?

thats great that you dont have to worry about unplugging the charger as soon as it full, i like to charge my macbook when i go out so when i come home it will be fully charged.

i have calibrated my battery a few times.

edit: OMG, just downloaded coconut battery and here is what is says:
current charge is 37%
Current battery capacity 93%
age of mac 5 weeks!
