well latley i get a bout 45mins of game play before my graphiccs card decides to turn its self off due to the heat it creates even with the side of my pc or with a 250mm fan blowing air onto it. this also happens even when the ambeint room temp causes me to have to wear a coat.

ive checked the card and it is not dusty at all.

the card is a gainward 280gtx

would this problem qualify for an rma?? (never rma'd anything before)

also what happens when you rma a product that the company no longer makes or sells????

Recently RMA'd a card myself and it was also a discontinued model. The company should provide you with a current equivalent model.

Probably wouldnt qualify for rma unless you can demonstrate a fault on the card that they can reproduce in the lab.

If you rma a product that a company no longer sells, they give you an equivalent product that they do sell :D That's what took me from a 9800 pro to a 1650 pro back in the day :p

Not so sure I wouldn't consider this as a fault. A graphics card should be able to handle more than 45 mins of gaming!

Might help the case if you monitor the GPU temps and report that to them, especially if it's hitting unsafe levels.

what are they temps, and how do you know its heat? Normally if you stick a 250mm fan next to it, or case side off etc it shouldnt overheat unless either the fan isnt ramping up in speed, or its blocked. You said you have checked for dust, but its still worth blowing through it as you cant always "see" where the dust is. Also, are you running the 196.75 drivers? They have known issues (at least with blizzard games, is what ive been told) with the fact that they do not turn the fan speed up as they should, and as such your card will overheat.

im using 196.21 drivers

i know its heat cause i touched the outer metal case and i still have the mark of the imitation vents left on my thumb.! i might as well of just grabbed hold of the kettle....

i think i will use rivatuner or like to monitor the temps.

is there anyway of setting the fan speed on the gpu to a higher setting?
