Over use of "mate"..

Only really noticed this recently.

Why do some people say "mate" so much?? Now I've started to notice it, it's actually started to annoy me lol :rolleyes:

I have a friend (mate lol) who says it in every single text he sends me

I'm aware it's just being friendly.. but REALLY??

I'm more annoyed by the overuse of "lol", especially when it seems unlikely that the loller is actually lolling.

I've noticed it but it doesn't bother me that much. People who say things like "Cee Bee Ay" or "el oh el: out loud annoy me though

i say it quite a bit but im well spoken in person, its just one of those things that once i started saying it i never took notice and it became the norm, its a friendly thing.

I called someone "mate" on a trip to the states recently. I got horrified looks from the locals. Obviously means something different there...

I tend to find pal, bud, chief etc all fall in to the same category. If I am not your pal, bud, chief or mate then I'd rather not be addressed as one, and if you do address me as one, then I am going to assume you're a bit of a cretin until proven otherwise.
