Over use of "mate"..

I use mate quite a bit not over use and I don't put it in text messages.

As someone else said if I am out at work and need to get someones attention ie they have their back to me and not very far away I will say "excuse me mate" or "excuse me fella".

I see it as being some what friendly as saying mate implys you mean no harm really. I suppose it depends on how you say it and how often though.

I don't say mate, I usually call them chap (if its a bloke), i.e. "excuse me chap" or "alright chap"

Mate isnt a bad word the worst word i hear people use is "boss". "Cheers boss"....really annoys me.

Strangely (or not) Wagwan was used by a London resident remain member this week in a mass email conversation. Everyone replied back with "WTF IS WAGWAN?".

I must admit when I got into the construction industry (I'm office based thankfully) the way people spoke on sites came as quite a shock to me, especially when I was on site in Gloucester one day and Leeds the next.

I've got used to it now, and as I'm very customer facing in my role (thank **** I don't have to deal with joe public though) I find myself adapting how I speak depending on how the other person speaks.

Missing out the letter T in words frustrates me though. A lot.
