Overall PC performance probs...please help??

thanks for your help, i managed to fork out a bit extra, the wife let me!! lol so i went with the Asus HD 7850 DirectCU II V2 1024MB GDDR5, and the x4, so i should have room to expand a little in the future maybe. CPU should arrive 2moz and the GPU arrive monday as i was a little late, and as stated i added an extra 2gb ram as it was only a few pound in the shop down the road, so it wouldnt hurt, hopefully my machine should run better now, specially as I've replaced every component now apart from the fans!!! lol

thanks again for the help buddy, you been awesome! :)

nice upgrades, my mate with a similar setup can run pretty much every game on max settings. only thing i would say is if youv'e still got time is to maybe swap the 1 gig 7850 for a 2 gig version of the 7850 as the price difference isn't much, (if you bought from ocuk a quick phone call would probably sort it if you cant cancel) wont be any benefit to you atm but if you get a 1080p monitor at some point it will help you keep games at higher settings at the higher resolution.

thanks again for ur advice i managed to secure the 2gb version and still deliver monday. also swapped the 2gb for 4gb vengance ram giving me an total of 8gb. just hope my bf3 frame rates increase now. also can the x4 640 be overclocked at all do u know?

the cpu and ram do make my system more responsive already tho that might be down to a reformat this mornin.

nice, good choice on the ram too make sure the ram is in the same colour slots on the mobo if you have 2x 4gb sticks, to run in dual channel. let me know how you get on when the 7850 is installed.

and yeah the x4 can be overclocked, its only later intel cpus where theyve locked overclocking, since bf3 is pretty cpu heavy id overclock it asap! youd likely get a good few hundred mhz from even a stock cooler

bf 3 cpu scaling including an athlon x4 in the comparison, theyre using a 580 which isnt much faster than a 7850 plus a higher res monitor but will give you an idea of the sort of performace you can expect, looks pretty damn good, to be fair even if you kept the x2 and just got the 7850, it would still have been a vast improvement!
