Overclock a AMD FX 8320

I think you'll struggle with that board due to weak, naked VRMs.
Not sure if pointing a fan or sticking some small heatsinks over them will help much; in general you need a fairly high-end board for FX overclocking.

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

Please don't tell me you paid £820 for that. That's the current price of that system. If you did you were ripped off. The guys here could have specced you a much better machine for that money. The motherboard is about as bargain basement as they come and as Kaku states, has no vrm cooling at all. It's not a good match for a 8320 that can hammer the vrm's even at stock speed. I doubt if that pc even has a half decent psu seeing as there is no mention of it in their specs.

What make and model though? A big sticker on the side proclaiming 600w means nothing. It's what it has on the 12v rail that matters. As they don't mention the psu in the specs I am betting it's a budget generic model.

Even some models offering xxA on the 12v rail could be sketchy, i have a chinese knock off PSU for switching on WCing pumps during leak tests. It claims a solid 40A on a single 12v rail... its deffo closer to 25 in practice, as i found out when my PSU dropped dead in my entertainment rig.

I'd definatly not reccomend OCing an 8core FX with that mobo

the chances of your VRMs goin pop and killing the board are pretty high.

It might be worth replacing the board actually, the FX cpu's have excellent OC headroom with the correct cooling and motherboard, could see a substantial increase in performance if it was overclocked.

Even if you don't overclock, you should really replace the board. I doubt it can run at stock without throttling.

Replace the board and read the stickies at the top of the overclocking forum or check the 83xx fx overclocking thread in the cpu (?) section if you are after some overclocking
