Hi

I am going to be building myself a new gaming system next week. I was going to go down the i7 route, but after reading a few posts and stuff it does not seem worth the extra cash

So the question I am not wondering is to go for the i5 over clocked bundle @ £515 or get the following

Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) £159.99
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) £154.99
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz £104.99
CoolIT Eco A.L.C. High-Performance CPU Watercooler £54.99
----------
£474.96

and overclock myself and save another £40

The only downside of the OC bundle is that the MB does not have USB3 or 6Gb/s SATA which might be nice to have

Been a while since I did any overclocking so thoughts and comments welcome please before I commit

Thanks in advance

I don't think you should be worrying too much about USB3 for the moment or 6GB SATA.

i5 is pretty easy to overclock and there are plenty of guides floating around to get your i5 to 4GHz. It depends how confient you feel.

if your happy with overclocking it yourself go for it .
oh and your sig breaks the rules.
Important Sig size limits.
A signature may contain one or more images but they must fit within a box with maximum dimensions of 400 x 75 pixels (width x height) and with a maximum (combined) file size of 20KB.

I got this bundle purely as I haven't overclocked before and after a few RMA'd parts I now have a fully working stable build. I got it for £465 on This Week Only about a month back but it seems to have gone up in price incrementally each week. Definitely would recommend but if you can overclock yourself then buying the same parts separately could be much cheaper.

Been looking at this bundle for a while now and will be ready to buy soon. Price has been up and down like a yo-yo and is currently at a high, but is generally around £50 more than the component prices. Although I have overclocked before, £50 seems well worth it to me to have a CPU chosen that is sure to take the overclock without issue, and for a pro to set it all up and stress test it, not to mention the warranty at OC'd settings. All boils down to how you personally weigh up saving some cash vs saving some hassle.

Out of interest was it parts of the bundle that needed to be RMA'd (even though it's supposedly all tested), or other system components?

Originally it was the gfx card, then RAM, then CPU. It was the CPU was the problem so the RAM and gfx were maybe actually ok. I am not sure how much each bundle is tested before dispatch but I wouldn't let one issue put you off.
