after finding out that my CPU is restricting my GPU from its full potential i wold like to overclock it abit

its a stock cooler

whats best bet for that cpu ?

well stating in your sig you're running at 2.1GHz is a bit of a lie lol but you'd need to get around the 3GHz speed which would be some drastic overclocking on an amd chip

At 2.1Ghz is probably is restricting your GTX260, in the bios try setting the multiplier to 10 and the bus speed to 250 - 260. it should be able to boot at that and run prime95 to test stability.
when it comes to the cooler it depends on what you're wanting to spend really, but the arctic cooling freezer64 should be ok i think.

it stated 2.1 on the box and in the dxdiag >.<
but im looking at maby 2.6-8 to make it abit better for my grafix card

I can't see you getting 3GHz stable on these chips, I used to have the 4200+ X2 on S939, with a gigabyte K8NXP-SLI mobo, and I could have it running at 2.8GHz 24/7, but then I moved over to AM2 socket, using the AM2 4200+ and it struggled to do 2.5GHz stable...

This cooler would be great for this chip

At the price they are selling for it's an absolute steal, it will do a much better job cooling your chip than the stock cooler does, which will allow you to clock it higher.

obviously use those as guidelines as they're not guaranteed to work. Start slower and lower on the details and work up to it.

Think that's the best you can get out of it.

I have no idea. I personally just overclock and go straight into a game.

There are AMD based testers that I think are free to download off their site

I've reached 2.6 GHz on my son's 3800+ (2HGz) on stock cooler taken from 7550BE with an ease (I mean just raised a voltage). Mobo M3N78 series, case not cooled.
You should get almost the same.. roughly as 3800+ was very good for o/c (some revisions upto 50% with air).
I'd recommend AC Freezer 64 Pro PWM as it's very cheap and efficient. If you want to o/c CPU just occasionally - let's say for some tasks and that's it - so you can try more expensive AC Freezer Xtreme which is huge and can drive more heat from CPU overvoltage. But you must have good PSU for o/c and "well winded" case (2x120 mm fans for example).
But if you suppose to can sell your CPU, maybe it's good idea to sell it and buy some cheap&used 7750BE/7850BE (o/c to 3.1-3.3 GHz) instead of Freezer Xtreme ?

if it's unstable it won't load windows, if it loads windows then it's stable enough, then if it crashes it's unstable lol

these programs tend to put strain on the cpu for varying amounts of time and it's the amount of load it can handle over varying amounts of time.

sometimes it's only after 2 or so hours before the cpu becomes unstable but if you're only on it for 90 minutes it's usually fine, there will be some disagreements there but it's all down to the length of time you run the stability test for.
