Hi all

I need help I just got ARMA3 and it runs like pooh.

I know its got to be me CPU so would some one help me over clock it please I aint overclocked for years now.

I have tryed the AI overclock and stuck it to 20% and got to 3.2ghz see post screen beep and fine as soon as I get to windows loading screen it restarts.

I assume its me RAM i did see that auto tune all so uped the MHZ of me ram from 800mhz to 935mhz should I lock the speed of the ram?

My motherboard is an

Asus striker extreme 1
rest of the system is

Q6700
ATI 4890 1GB
4GB ram

Thanks

Hi all sorry to bump but really need advice fast :(

I have just tryed overclocking manually so I set memory to unlinked and its set to 800mhz whice is what I think it should be (thats what is all ways shows at start up any way) I then set the FSB to 1200 instead of the default 1066.

So 1200x10 multiplyer = 12000 / 4 = 3000

I have made sure PCI-e is kept at 100mhz.

I save and all is fine it posts but as soon as it gets past post screen it restarts and loops over till i go back to BIOS please help.

Do I need to unlick SATA or RAID or tunr some thing off maybe more voltage? at the moment the BIOS reports a CPU voltage of 1.31 and hardware moniter shows 1.248.

Please advise

I give up I set the rated FSB to 1100 and when I click save its starts into windows now but my over clock makes no difference if I go back into bios its back at default setting it aint saving now

lock the ram 1:1 with the fsb. assuming it's pc6400 you could theoretically get the cpu to 4ghz without overclocking the ram at all (but that would require a supreme chip and probably watercooling as well).

i'd start off with 333x9 (3ghz) or 400x8 (3.2ghz) and work your way up from there. you might need to bump up the vcore voltage a bit. stress the blighter and keep and eye on your temps.

HI again

So lock the ram at 1:1 and unlink it from the CPU as I dont want to clock the ram really it wont handle it.

You say set FSB to 333x9 where do I put that because in the setting I have

rated FSB thats at 1066 so 1066x10/4 = me 2.66

The ram is at 800mhz thats what it show in ther BIOS where would one put the 333x9

Thanks

urgh. i just googled your board and it's an nvidia chipset. not much cop for quad core overlclocking. :(

i have no idea what they're capable of. i don't think i'll be much help but at least it's something to search for. i bet this subject has been done to death over the years.

Thanks for trying to help appriciate it mate.

I googled around but my problem is it not saving my setting and when I go into windows and fire up CPUz,HDmoniter none show the changes so I go into BIOS and yeah thats why they reset :(

you still might get 3ghz. after all, it's not that much more than stock. in your terminology what i suggested is 1333x9/4 = 3ghz. like i say, have a search.

yup, you can shove plenty more through than that. i did mention increasing it a bit in my first reply. i had mine at 1.45v with a crappy cooler before things got too hot. people with much better cooling were sticking 1.55-1.6 through theirs.

you shouldn't need much more than 1.35 to hit 3ghz (some will do it on stock or less). like i say, put it to work and monitor those temps.

Ohh thanks

Sorry I did miss the part about voltages sorry.

I will keep you posted thanks for the help.

P.S

Damn they can take that much extra voltage thats huge increase

btw, i don't know what "ARMA3" is but assuming it's a brand new game, it might be that your GPU simply isn't powerful enough.

you should still be overclocking your cpu of course. it's compulsory.

lol yeah was gonna do it from day one just never got round to it.

ARMA3 is ALPHA at the moment but peeps with monster rigs I mean killer ones still have issues as in not using all cores right etc.

but I have been meaning to OC me CPU for ages

Update

Well no matter what I do it just wont save the settings in my BIOS

I set FSB to 1200 unlinked save and exit but nope just wont save settings :(

Just thought I would chabge the system time in BIOS just to see if it saved that and it does so its not the battery I am lost here I really am :(

Im going to instal the latest BIOS 2002 I think it is see if this helps

have you searched for any nvidia chipset related overclocking threads? maybe use q6600 as part of the search because they're far more popular than the q6700 you have.

i used to have a gigabyte p35 (intel) board and it really was as simple as playing with the fsb and bumping up the voltage a bit. but with yours, you might have a whole multitude of settings that need tinkering with? i don't know and i'm not searching for you. :p

LOL have searched aint stoped its not the fact of over clocking really its the fact its not saving my overclock settings even if I bump up the FSB from 1066 to 1067 so its not because it cant do it its just not saving.

you said it saved the time? :p

drop the multiplier as low as it will go. what happens then?

edit: i found the manual online. in the memory bit where it's unlinked, the next option down is fsb - memory ratio - is that definitely set 1:1?

Hi if you set it to unlinked you get no optoin for ratio only if you choose linked do you get the optoin.

Actually let me just make sure of that first LOL
