i have a asus strike 2 formula 780i and a q6600 which ive got at 3ghz i wouldnt reccomend unlinking the ram it is very unstable depends on how your board handles it i can have it unlinked at 3ghz but as soon as i go over it goes mad i would reccomend linking the ram if you have stability problems and make sure you change your ram sync options to make your ram the same speed 1:1 can overclock your ram past its default frequencies aslong as it not going past the standard frequencie of your ram you will be alright u can set different sync options in the bios and see the ram frequencie chance also if its not stable try bump your vcore up and nb a little to get it stable try intel burn tool and prime to check your stability and temps
