Hello. Fresh in to overclocking. Read though the informative beginners quide on here so have a basic understanding of whats involved, but with no experience am aprehensive to begin making any adjustments without advice.

So I'm hoping for some expert advice for above all a safe, reasonable overclock spec for the following system, with a recommended app tht can accuratley monitor the temperature, clock settings etc

Asus P6X58D Premium Motherboard

Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366)

MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Corsair Professional Series™ Gold AX850 High Performance 850W Power Supply

2 x Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Triple Channel Kit (12gb 6x2gb in total)

Zalman CNPS9700 LED super aero flower cool CPU Fan

3 x Case fans - 2x at front of case for hard drives - 1 at rear

2 x Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache

2 x Samsung Spinpoint 1T 64mb cache

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit

The system is used primarily for audio apps cubbase sx running various vst processors and synths as well as graphix and video apps - adobe photoshop, after effects, Sony vegas pro.

Finally the graphix card has its own facility to adjust the following parameters
Core voltage, Core clock, Shader Clock, Memory Clock and Fan Speed, with various graphs showing various parameter performance. Does this need to be taken in to consideration when overclocking the main system or should this be treated as a seperate unit and clocked seperatley???

Many thanks in advance for any help and support!!

12gb of ram will limit your overclock jack....
the overclock of your cpu /ram is done in the bios were your 460 is done in windows

There is a really good guide at the top of this forum section on how to overclock. Have a read it will help answer heaps of questions you have not even thought about yet.

And welcome to the weird world of overclocking, once you start there is no turning back. :D
