Overclock settings lost and clock a few hours slow after being off overnight

Hi all,

Recently built a new PC and I've noticed after being off for a while (wall plug turned off), when turning the PC back on my overclock and all bios settings are back to default and also the time is wrong.

I've replaced CMOS batteries in other motherboards after a few years when the time would be 00:00 every time you boot, however with this the time isn't 00:00, but a random time a few hours in the past. For example this morning it was saying around 04:30 when it was 07:00, and all tweaked frequencies, voltages and settings for the overclock are reset to default.

It hasn't done this when being shutdown for a shorter period of time.

The motherboard is a brand new Gigabyte Z170MX-Gaming 5 running a 6600k @ 4.6ghz on 1.38v. Also an MSI 7850 GPU, Samsung Evo 850 250gb SSD and RM750x PSU if that matters.

My current thoughts are to remove and reinstall CMOS battery to see if its seated properly, and have a dig through the bios to see if theres anything in there that might cause it but I'd have no idea what I was looking for! I also could try another battery from an old Q6600 rig.

Any advice/input appreciated!

Yeah, sounds like you know what the problem is already, either the battery isnt in right or its dead, if ya have a multi meter ya could test it but i would just stick another one in first.

I'd grab a brand new CR2032 battery to be sure that you are giving it one with lots of life left.
