Hi All,

My pc has started to freeze and bluescreen a lot more recently and wonder if it could be the motherboard starting to fail.

What is a good motherboard to replace this one with? I know at the time this was the budget one and was lucky to get a stable clock.

My plan is to replace the gfx card next month to give the pc a refresh so would like a motherboard which will allow me to get to the magic 5ghz again (ideally with better heatsinks) and keep the pc going for another couple of years before a complete overhaul.

Thanks

What PSU you got buddy? Potentially its that at fault... Other things to try would be remove/clean/reapply the thermal paste (some good paste) on the CPU if you're seeing temps increase?

Do you have a budget in mind for the board? What GPU are you planning on?

Thanks for the reply, I have the following PSU:

Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

I guess I could try the thermal paste but temps on the CPU aren't too bad.

When I purchased the system I went for the cheaper motherboard option knowing full well due to the cooling I would be really pushing it getting the cpu to 5ghz hence why I am thinking this is the problem.

Looking at changing to an AMD480.

Ideally budget would be as cheap as possible so possibly second hand, but at a push around £100.

Quick Google isnt making that supply sound amazing to be honest, have you got access to another one you can borrow to try for a few days and see if the problem is solved?

£100 is a decent budget for it so lets see what anyone recommends, I had the same chip and a Sabertooth 990FX for a number of years and was very happy with it but I think its becoming a bit of a limited choice of what is left to be fair. Its looking like £80 is a good option but i'll leave it to others to recommend!
