Hi guys,

don't know what is causing this but after upgrading my GTX680 2GB to a Gigabyte G1 Gaming GXT 980ti my system won't boot 9/10 times.

Any idea what could be causing this?

When it does boot it seems stable and runs fine.

I've had a GTX480 SLI on this PSU and that ran fine so I don't think it's the graphics card drawing to much power from the psu right?
Latest bios of the motherboard.
Overclock is at 4Ghz 1200Mhz memory (1600mhz supported memory)
I press the power button fans everything starts but no display and memory led is red.

I've tried with less ram/different sticks and no solution.

When it does boot better turn down the overclock?

I see this GTX980ti has 2x8 pins instead of the 1x8pin 1x6pin of the GTX680, can it be I need more voltage somewhere? If so what would be the first thing to look at?

Hi there

Put your old card back in.

Then remove your OC and set all voltages to default.
Also disconnect any case fans and un-required devices to boot such as ODD, HDD etc.

Then try again with 980Ti fitted.

Could just be a case your right on the limit with your PSU or your motherboard is struggling with 980Ti as is probably not gen3. So also try different modes for the PCI-e slots.

Hey Gibbo, thanks for your reply.
I managed to get it to boot once and get into the bios. Loaded default settings and set everything accordingly leaving the overclock at default, only mem at 1.65v and now it seems to boot correctly.

Think I'll need to sort out my OC again :)

Good if it fails to boot once voltages increased, then could be PSU on the limit of the VGA card putting more strain on the motherboard and thus effecting the CPU / RAM OC.

So, I'm two weeks further and it's been hit and miss.

I managed to boot it and set everything back to defaults. Then it seemed to boot fine. Played a bit with it and it starts again...

It randomly stops booting and I have to reset all to default again.

Right now it's at default (no oc) and with dram voltage @ 1.65, rest on auto. Booted fine after that, played some Hearts of Iron 3, just went out with the gf and just came back, again no boot out of nowhere. Was so frustrated with this yesterday and today I almost ordered a new mobo+cpu+ram but I know that's stupid. This system is fine when it runs...

Any ideas? Voltages?
I've checked the PSU rails only 3.3 line is lower than 3.3 , 5+v 12+vis at 3.24 but that is fine right?

It's started since I put in the Gigabyte 980ti G1 Gaming... Could the combo just be not working correctly?

But surely a GTX480 SLI is more power than a 980ti? My PSU could go out ofc...

I don't know what to do next to be honest.

Yeah thinking logically it must be the card but could be compatibility. Just hope that when I swap it out I won't have the same thing with the new card.

Just put my GTX 680 2GB back in and all is fine.

Don't have one spare to test it in :(
I've contacted the company I got the 980ti from and I can swap it no problem luckily so it's in the box now. Wednesday will be swapped.

Little update:
Card was tested and is totally stable in their test bench so it's probably a compatibility thing.
They allow me to swap it out for a: EVGA GTX 980Ti Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ which I will get tomorrow. Fingers crossed that is going to work in my system.

Last update:
The replacment EVGA GTX 980Ti Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ works great with my setup so it looks like a Gigabyte 980Ti G1 Gaming doesn't work nicely with an Asus P6X58D-E.

Hope it might help other people still on the board. Thanks for the help guys!
