Overclock wall?

I've just bought a ASUS P5Q-E and a E2180 2.0GHz with 4GB Geil Black Dragon.

I'm a noob when it comes to intel. Had some sucess in overclocking AMD boards without too much trouble but I'm stuck with this one!

So far I've managed to get 2.65GHz stable with the only changed settings of FSB @ 265 and Multiplier @X10.

I've heard I should be able to push this to around 3GHz?

Any suggestions on how to progress? All settings apart from the ones I've mentioned are set to Auto.

Also, what is the max voltage I can get away with for the CPU and Memory? Max temps for CPU? The only cooler I have is a Freezer 7 Pro, nothing for the memory.

Looking forward to making this machine a bit quicker :)

What speed is your memory at with your CPU at 2.65ghz?

Should be able to get to 2.8-3ghz on the stock CPU voltage.

300 fsb with a 10 multi should be 3ghz

if your memory is at 400 with the fsb at 265 sounds like there unlinked or on a funny ratio.

ive not played with these cheaper Dual cores though.

hhmm
speedstep need knocking off for a start - as wel as a few other things
have you set the multiplier manually in the chipset config?

perhaps try to get your ram running at relaxed timings if possible so you can run it faster

Drop the DRAM Freq to the lowest setting for the meantime. You can raise it again once you've finished clocking the CPU.

speedstep is off. c1e is also now off.

The bios won't let me change the cpu ratio for some reason. it's stuck in auto??

Current timings are 5-5-5-15-3. How relaxed is it worth going?

This is a little frustrating to say the least!:p

cpu volts at 1.35. memory voltage at 1.8. memory frequency lowest at 571Mhz.

Crashed under stress test. Is it worth bumping the memory up? OCUK states it should be at 1.9 to 2.0V?

1.9v wouldn't do any harm, tho it shouldn't need more than 1.8v for 571mhz 5-5-5-15.

Bsod again.

Looks like I'm going to have to live with a stock overclock of 2.65GHz at this rate!

Any further suggestions?

Just trying is at 2.75 on the offchance.....

So far, the best I can get out of it is 2.75GHz which appears stable.

That is with the following settings

CPU V 1.35
Dram V 1.9
FSB 275
Dram 917MHz

All other options are set in auto.

Is it worth tinkering with the timings? currently at 5-5-5-15-2T

Also, The two cores were showing overheat on Speedfan at 53 and 54 C. Is that an acceptable temperature? Within seconds of the load being taken off the temps were back down to low 30's.
