Hi
I just noticed my Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz @ 3.40GHz core speed on CP-Z shows it running only at 1598 then fluctuating up to 2600 even underload it maxes on 2600 not 3400 like it used too
Could someone tell me whats gone wrong please
Thanks

I suspect the mobo reset the BIOS settings to stock from your overclocked set on a cold boot.
You need to go into the BIOS and check what your clocks are.

Thanks i phoned overclockers at i reset the cpu speed but i forgot to ask him about disableing the C1E what does that do and how can i do it ?

Disabling C1E is a BIOS setting to stop the computer saving power by dropping the clock speeds when it is idle. It is the C1E action that caused you to see a clock of 1598 on your machine when it was doing nothing. Once it starts to do something then it will ramp up to full speed.

So basicly its stopping the speed step ? i was talking to one of the system support guys at oc and he said by disabling the speed step and leaving my pc on for a long time my electric bill would be a lot higher is this true ?

Yes it is the speedstep. This drops voltage as well as clocks. A review on XBitLabs showed the Power consumption at idle when speed stepped, to be almost half that at 100% load. So the power savings are considerable.

I'd leave speedstep on if I were you, not only will it save a lot of power in the long run, but also you won't have as much heat dumped into your case. As soon as you need the CPU power, speedstep will ramp up the clock for you.

but doesn't speedstep mess up an overclocked cpu? might have been getting the wrong advice cause if thats the case i think im gonna put it back on.

I tend to disable speedstep when setting up my overclock then re-enable once I am happy and my system is stable and see how I get on.
