Morning all :)

Ive currently got my E4400 overclocked and stable at 3.2ghz using an EVO 120 air cooler. However under full load with orthos say after 35 mins the temps acording to core temp are spiking up to 72 degrees c. My question to you is how accurate is core temp? I read somewhere that the programmer had written it so that temps showed up 15 degrees more than they actually were. If however that isnt true is 72 degrees too much? Should I drop back? My vcore is at 1.40v

core temp is fairly reliable from what i've seen around here, do you have the latest version ? (think its 0.95).

i would back the voltage a down a bit tho, most recommendations i've seen dont advocate more than 60 degrees underload, so up to u, you'd have to find another processor if it fries.

Nah, C2D are fine up to 70 odd! Dont worry about it, if it does get too hot the system will throttle anyway and shut down. Have my 4400 at 3.2ghz, 70 underload! Still got 12 hours orthos stable, so should be all ok!

Only orthos will push it that far, i never seen any real world programs hammer my cpu like orthos did.

As long as its stable in normal use your fine

The old 4400 does seem to run a bit warm!

Mine is at 3.4Ghz with 1.3125vcore, although I've done the pencil vdroop mod to my P5B so the cpu actually gets near enough that voltage.

Mine's also watercooled, and I usually get around 8c above ambient at idle, and about 33c above ambient at full load. So, usually around 35c/60c.

As others have said, I wouldn't worry unduly about temps in the low 70's, as the throttle point isn't until 85c.

I think you could probably try nudging the vcore down a bit on yours, but I don't think it will make a dramatic difference to the temps to be honest.

Ive dropped the vcore back down to 1.325 and started again upping bit by bit both cpu fsb and the vcore etc but it bottles it in orthos, with rounding errors. So Ive dropped it to 3ghz at stock 1.325 vcore. Temps are the same as when I first installed the chip at stock 2ghz :)

I will have to get water cooling to see how far I can push this puppy
