Overclocked GPU - Need help

Basically i have stupidly overclocked my 5450 within AMD's windows software (catalyst?) to its highest settings and hit test which caused system failure and now won't let me reset the amended settings. Windows boots and allows me to log in just doesn't allow me to revert settings.

Is it a case of removing the graphics card and then boot using mobo output to then change? Such a school boy error due to boredom and no sense at the time!

Any help would be appreciated

you could try driver sweeper mate in safe mode

uninstal drivers first then use driver sweeper

then reinstal the drivers

Actually removing the card does not fix this. Theoretically driver sweeper /would/ if it erased every single registry entry created by the Catalyst installer.

Jon, unfortunately the registry file wasn't available on my machine (assuming I installed something different?)

djshauny, I was unable to test your idea (didn't have the time or resources to download driver sweeper) so i opted to just do a fresh install of windows. I suppose it was about time.....

Without creating a new thread and becoming annoying. Would anyone have any recommendations on how I could set up my machine to be able to play Dirt3?.

Currently, when I try to run Dirt the graphics lag/judder an unbelievable amount. I'm not really an avid PC gamer but it would be nice to play it once in a while.

AMD FX4100 @ 3.6Ghz
XFX HD5450
4Gb RAM
500w PSU
90Gb OCZ Agility 3
750Gb WD Caviar

EDIT: Will be OC the CPU again when I get a new PSU, read some comments and don't trust my current budget PSU.....

You were on the right track with overclocking your gpu. That's the limiting component there. I might try using MSI afterburner to overclock it in small increments until it loses stability (maybe add a tiny touch of extra volts at that point) to get the most out of it, and then drop your graphics settings until it's playable. Either that or buy a better gpu, but you've said you don't game that often so it's up to you whether it's worth the outlay.

Cheers devrij I'll give that a try. If i get into it a bit more i think I'll just upgrade my GPU as that seems the best route.

Also, one more quick question......Which is better performance wise, the onboard HD4000 graphics or the HD5450 card?. I would have thought the card but I cant find any benchmarks when searching to confirm that?.
