i bought a q6600 overclocked from 2.4 to 3.0 but im not sure if it is i have never o/ced anything before and TBH i don't have a clue about it. i wanted to check to see if it was so i downloaded CPU-z and it say's the core speed is 1603.0mhz with a multiplier of x6 now that doesn't look right to me but as i said i do not have a clue.is there anyway i can boost it to 3.0ghz easily baring in mind i am a complete novice when it comes to comnputers.

Sounds like Intel speedstep (power saving technology). All perfectly normal.

You should see your full clockspeed when you load the CPU, try running a stress tester like OCCT and you should see the multiplier jump up along with the clockspeed.

Multi at 9 and an fsb of 333 should do it. Set the vcore to about 1.35 and test load temps. You can then wind the vcore down until you find the lowest stable or wind the clocks/volts up ;)

Important info:

What cooler?
What motherboard?
Load temps at each clock interval?

There is a wealth of info about these excellent chips online :)

Afaik 1.3250v seems to be the highest VID on 65nm core 2 duo/quad. My previous E6600 SL9S8 also had 1.3250v VID. Though I reached 3.2GHz stable with 1.3875v in bios :).

iv got a Q6600 and had it clocked to 3.0 333/9..... with vcor at 1.30, temps when in game was under 50. this worked for about 2 weeks no problems

last night playing bfbc2 it crashed, after blagging to my mates how good and stable my overclock was working me=tit
