Hi guys,

I have a new peripheral supplier in the form of lioncast. they make decent peripherals for a decent price. they are not going to blow you away with unique features, but their mice, headsets and keyboards are very good value. for me they fit a niche between budget and the middle tier from your more established manufacturers.

to spread the word i am looking for volunteers!

i am looking for forum members to review some of their headsets and mice they have sent us. all you have to do is write me a review of your current mouse on this thread. i'll pick my favourite 3 reviews by the end of next week 27/01/17. you can keep the headset, mouse and mousemat i will send you all i ask in return is that you post back on this thread with your views and also post reviews of the products on our website. i want you to be honest and impartial with your reviews and of course haribo will be sent with your review samples :)

Hi guys,

Thank you for all your entries. I have enjoyed reading them all and has given me great insight into what you want in mice, what you look for and how the mice actually fare once you've received them.

I won't bore you with the reasons why, (they range from the strength of the review to their obvious need for a new mouse!) my three winners of the review samples are:

DRUMROLL:

There's been a few Corsair M65 RGB gaming mice but this latest one (launched spring 2016) is the top model in the M65 range and thus also carries the term PRO appended to it's product title.

The first thing you might notice is that the mouse is part of a family of RGB peripherals that share lighting customisation through Corsair's CUE software. Don't be put off though by thinking all of what you're spending has gone on the fancy lighting because it certainly hasn't!

This new model now has an optical sensor with adjustable sensitivity right up to 12000 DPI that can be changed simply using the up / down arrow buttons on top of the mouse. Furthermore, the CUE software I mentioned earlier can be used to change the DPI value presets that the mouse adjustment buttons toggle through. It doesn't stop there in terms of customising this mouse as all 8 buttons can be reprogrammed. These buttons are LMB, MMB on scroll wheel, RMB, DPI UP, DPI DOWN, two buttons towards the top of the thumb area and what is termed the sniper button that sits below the front of your thumb. The scroll wheel has a purposeful feel to it so you feel notches as you rotate it rather than it free wheeling it has a little resistance to it. Whilst it's unlikely you'd want to reprogram the LMB & RMB that still gives 6 if you forgo wanting to adjust DPI directly from the mouse. This has been useful in a space MOBA that I play that has 6 ability keys as I used the CUE software to remap those 6 mouse keys to the numeric keys 1 through to 6. Since the CUE software allows you to create individual profiles for whatever software you wish, each time I now launch the game the mouse switches automatically to the custom profile. You can create many custom profiles and even save these to the mouse itself if you want to take your mouse to use on a different computer.

The mouse has a nice weight to it despite the frame being made from aircraft-grade aluminium, it's neither too light or too heavy but if you want to make it lighter this has been accommodated with the removable weights in its underside.

Being a PC enthusiast it was nice to see the use of a braided USB cable as I think this chimes well with a quality feel to the product and was a nice touch that carries through well from also having a Corsair PSU with braided cables.

Having had this mouse a few months I can also say the finish seems quite robust as it hasn't yet developed shiny wear patches on the surface like my previous mouse did in a very short time.

The amount of programmable buttons was a key feature I looked for when comparing mice but I also wanted them to be placed well for ease of use and generally be a good all round mouse rather than a specific MOBA mouse.

Overall I feel this mouse was designed by someone passionate about what they do, it fairs very favourably on features and quality with mice costing much more. They could have skimped on the bits you don't see like the aluminium body, the quality Omron switches or things such as the braided cable. Somehow though in a world obsessed with price this isn't at the sacrifice of quality and I applaud that very much, top marks from me.

Right, I feel I've used these long enough now to formulate an opinion.

Lets talk about the mouse first.

Coming from using predominantly ambidextrous mouse in the past this was a change for me as it is a right handed mouse, surprisingly i found this extremely easy to use and much more comfortable to me and has also made me wonder why i haven't gone down this route before. The mouse has a decent size to it and is shaped well, i can fit my hand on it using palm grip without the feel of my fingers overhanging any area of the mouse giving it a more natural fitted feel.

The exterior shell of the mouse is of fairly reasonable quality, with a soft touch top that feels great and hard gloss plastic sides which are fingerprint and dirt magnets. (fan of the former, not so much of the latter)
There is a textured grip area where your thumb rests which while being comfortable i can imagine in long gaming sessions will get quite sweaty and give a more irritating feel.

The buttons on the mouse are for the most part all in place very well and aren't loose at all, which is excellent for a mouse this price. However i do have a problem with the right click being slightly loose compared resulting in a slightly mushy click and sometimes the feeling i'm not even clicking at all with a few cases of dead clicks depending on how high up the mouse i'm pressing the button. This isn't necessarily a problem with the mouse as it could just be the unit i received.

While the mouse has a vast array of buttons which you can remap in the software (I'll get to that in a moment) i found most of them to be useless due to either the position of them or just lack of need.
I feel that if the button infront and behind the scroll wheel as well as the one to the left of the left click where removed it would be just right, for my needs atleast.

Flipping the mouse around reveals the underside which contains the feet, sensor, a button which i have no idea does and the weight adjustment.
The feet cover a pretty decent area of the bottom and glide well however to me this feels defeated by the pads sitting flush with the extruding plastic they are housed in within certain areas, this results in being able to feel the plastic slightly scraping on your mouse pad if you apply pressure on your mouse which I am sure many do whilst in the heat of a game.
On inspection of the pads it also looks as if they may get worn down faster than you may want.

Twisting the smiley face anti-clockwise and then giving the mouse a tap from the top reveals the weight system of the mouse, You are provided with a decent amount of options here although it would have been nice for them to tell you the actual weight of these in grams on the weights themselves. You are also supplied with a plastic case to store any weights you may take out.

The non detachable cable on the mouse is a nice para-cord sleeved cable in red and black, there isn't much to say here apart from it is quite stiff at the moment giving some extra drag to the mouse as i move it around however this may soften up overtime.

Now onto the performance and software of the mouse.

Generally i have no quarrels with the performance of the mouse, it has a nice range to choose from on the dpi with 5 different presets you can set and switch to with the on mouse buttons ranging from 50-16400 dpi in all honesty i have no idea why companies are making mouses with such high dpi as realistically who is going to use 16400 dpi?

In the general tab of the software you'll find the option to map your buttons as well as other options such as double click speed and polling rate, there isn't much i can tell you here apart from the fact it just works and reiterate my opinion that the mouse could do with a few less buttons or at least be less awkwardly placed as you have to really reach press some of them.

Lastly how can we not have a review without talking about RGB as seems to be the trend.

In the software suit you are able to change the colour of the light on the rear of the mouse, you get a good selection of predefined colours as well as the ability to set your own by either inputting a hexcode or selecting from a colour palette. While the selection options are great the actual light on the mouse isn't so great, it doesn't fill the logo on the mouse meaning it doesn't appear as a solid, you can definitely tell its an led bulb (even more so when it is on breathing mode)

So that is my review on the mouse, overall for the price tag of this mouse (£30) i would definitely say it is a competitive option with plenty of features and a pretty good software suit and is definitely a mouse i will continue to use until i find the right wireless mouse for me.

I will update this post later with the review of the headset once i have a bit more time with it as I've been having issues with my microphone input/drivers on my motherboard and not had the chance to test it out properly.

Top review, thanks for the effort!

Not a problem, thanks again for the chance to review these :)
I'll post again/update that post tomorrow with a review of the headset.

Cool, maybe pop images in spoilers to avoid the post being too long :) Also if you want to pop any relevant info into the store page reviews to help future potential buyers to make an informed decision then that would be a big help :)

Nik i feel like a fraud, the stuff hasnt moved from where I photographed them in post #47. Is there another entrant I can send them on to or a good cause OCUK support I can donate them too? I just do not have time to do a proper review and feel like a scrub every time I see them :-D

If there are any thread viewers willing to take you up on your offer then feel free to organise amongst yourselves. Otherwise don't worry, life gets in the way sometimes!
