Overclocking 2500k for the 1st time - need an AIO.

As per the title, I'm finally going to overclock my 2500k after having it at stock since new. I need more fps in games.

Therefore I need:

1. An easy how-to guide

2. An AIO watercooler - which ones are the best/quietest/most reliable?

The cooler will have to fit in a H440, looking for one that's easy to fit/idiot-proof. I've heard the Antec ones are notoriously difficult.

2. The best/quietest/most reliable AIO is an air cooler. I had an NH-D14 in my H440 just fine so most things will fit.
 
agreed with disco aio sucks. air is more reliable. if you want really good temps you are better of with proper water cooling :p
 
Ok so just checked, it's an MSI Z68MA- G45 (B3).

Haha yeah I've heard it sucks in comparison but I prefer it aesthetically

Reliability yeah ok, theres really not much to go wrong with air cooling, bar maybe a fan dying. But AIO's are hardly unreliable these days.
Plus not everyone wants a towering monstrosity hanging off their motherboard.
I prefer the relatively clean look of the AIO, no its not an ideal solution, its a compromise, but people knock them far more than is necessary.
I've owned two Corsair AIO's over the years, and i've also had full multi rad WC loops, i've recently ditched the full CPU/GPU loop for a nice simple H110i.
Provides great temps with at 4.5ghz 2500K, mid 40's max, idles low 20's

As for clocking the 2500k, it really is easy, should get low-mid 4's on stock voltage, just set multiplier in overclocking section of your BIOS, 40 multi will give you 4ghz, 45 will give 4.5ghz etc etc. Just edge it up until you find max stable.
 
Ran my 2500k at 4.6mhz with a H100i gtx and was great.
Now running 3570k at 4.6mhz with the h100i and also decent temps.

Nothing wrong with AIO coolers :)
 
Thanks, it sounds simple enough to overclock - is my motherboard suitable for overclocking?
 
I can kinda understand people wanting water cooling for aesthetic reasons. But not a CLC.

And all water cooling has a higher failure rate than air cooling does.

Anyone who thinks the CLC segment of AIO coolers have nothing wrong with them does not have a firm grasp on reality.

CLCs cost more, and won't last near as long, are louder, and when they do fail you have no cooling at all, so no system to use until you replace the CLC .. so at the very least keep nice dependable air cooler in the closet to use when your CLC dies.
