i need help overclocking my 2600k on a gigabyte ga-p67a-ud7-b3 board.i clocked my i7 930 to 4.4 ok,but this chip is confusing me.all i did was to increase multi to 45 as a start and left the vcore on auto.it wouldnt boot up so i need a starting point to follow.any help would be greatfully received

ok.i've managed to get it to 4.6ghz. i set my ram to the rated 1866 with timings at 9/10/9/27 and 1.5 volts.LLC set to 10,vcore is 1.4.it's passed 3 runs of linx and 5 runs of intelburntest.ideally i want to get as close to 5ghz as i can but not with really high volts.so what fine tuning can i try to get the vcore down

upped it to 4.7 and was stable on 1.41 vcore.i then started to up the bclk by 0.050 each time.got it to 1015 and got an error on linx.so i lowered my memory to 1600 then it passed.but it looks like my chip is volt hungry

Personally I'd use the multi and not the bclk when overclocking on your chip.

Your LLC is to high at 10, you need to bring it down to 5 or 6.

Aways check your temps are below 80c under stress, and try and keep that voltage at 1.4v and below for 24/7 use.

Not all chips are made equally, so 4.6ghz and staying under 1.4v might be your sweet spot on your chip.

thanks.so i reset the bclk to 100 and lowered the vcore to 1.4 with multi at 47.i lowered the LLC to 6 and it passed 3 runs of linx.i'm on custom water and the highest temps were 57/64/64/61

To finalise your stable settings, you will need to run prime 95 blend test for between 8 to 24 hours.

I just use 8 hours, but a lot of people like to test for 12 plus hours.

And run Intel burn test for about 25 to 50 runs before you start the prime testing.

If after testing you want more GHz, then up that multi one more notch and test from there once more.

There are some nice discussions about stress testing on these forums, do a search and you'll learn a lot from it.

Here's a good thread to get you started: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18297411

it wasnt 100% stable so i lowered to 4.6 with 1.4vcore and it was prime stable for an hour.i'll try to lower the vcore tomorrow but i'm a bit disappointed with 4.6 to be honest i was hoping for 4.8 at least

there seems to be a lot of conflicting advice regards to max volts .intel states 1.52 max.others say they would'nt go over 1.3.i've got mine set to 1.42 now and running 4.7ghz with turbo off.i think thats ok as its under water?

4.6ghz is about the norm for 2600K from what I've seen, beyond that the voltage required for it to be stable is not worth it for only a couple of hundred mhz extra.

Prime95 seems to be the best stability test for Sandy Bridge, also you can't really compare 2500k overclocks to 2600k because the 2500k lack hyperthreading and as such the cores aren't under as much load (thus they will go higher on lower voltage).

A 4.6ghz 2600k still a lot faster than a 4.4ghz 930 as it's a faster CPU clock for clock.

Max safe that intel states is 1.52v, but ofc you don't want to take it to close to that limit. If it was me and I was using water, I wouldn't want to take it above 1.45v for 24/7 usage.

i've managed to get it to 4.9ghz but it's deffo volt hungry.settings are,

100x49 multi
internal cpu/pll overvoltage enabled
turbo disabled
LLC level 10
vcore 1.48:eek:
system agent volts down from 0.925 to 0.905
cpu/pll set to 1.880 from 1.800

all other settings left set to auto
ram is running at the rated 1866 with timings of 9/10/9/27 as written on the side of the sticks

now i know the vcore is high but it's under water so i'll live with it(just hope the chip carries on living with it).
so are there any settings i can tweak to get it over the 5.0ghz line.it's so close it would be a shame not to try

i have mine on 4.7 for 1.4 volts mate. i wouldnt worry about it. But for 4.9 i bet you your using something like 1.46! im in the same boat mate overclock mine which ive just got. had some help off a few ocuk members, if you want to talk to someone at pretty much the same point as you add me on steam. cabbage4321 you pll voltage should be lower than that. 1.77 i have mine on

Just noticed you did list your volts. 1.48 is too much for 24/7 mate.

i'm fighting with the little voice in my head at the moment about the vcore but i really went over to sandybridge so i could get a 5.0ghz processor.so to be close but not quite there is getting my goat.are there any settings i can fiddle with to let me lower the volts a little?
