Hiya all Finally upgraded to 64 bit just wondering how the hell to overclock this looks like things have moved on a bit since my XP2500 only bit i am understanding at the minute is the FSB!.

My specs are AMD Athlon 64 3700 Radeon X1800GTO Epox 9NPA+ Geil Value 1GB PC3200 Oh and AMD OEM heatsink ..ordering something better soon.

Any idea where to start so far pushed the FSB to an amazing 205fsb..lol

Thanks

Mike

- Run RAM on a divider by setting it to 166Mhz (or 180Mhz) in the BIOS
- Set LDT multiplier to 3x instead of 5x
- Increase HTT (FSB) speed in steps of 5Mhz
- Test with Prime95's small FFT torture test
- When unstable increase VCore slightly and try again

Good advice :) dropped the divider down to 180Mhz first but ended up clocking further dropped it down to 166 and now running at 2.585Ghz! still on stock voltage and still on stock HSF! how much is reasonable to expect out of one of these things so far its been a no hastle overclock.

prime 95`ed it for 8 hours and all stable too :D

That chip can do 2.8 Ghz with ease i reckon.

Mine did, and so did quite a lot of other peoples :)

Just noticed the voltage when i overclocked to 2750 it keeps changing from 1.564v to 1.568v just been into the bios and i forgot to take the voltage off auto think it would be ok to leave it?

Mike

I used put 1.6 Through my 3700 :) so that should be fine at that voltage.

I would turn off the Auto voltage thing though, you want everything set to manual idealy

Ah thats cool ill wait until i finish seeing what i can get out of it then set it manually ..or OFF as Epox bios puts it lol.

Currently at 2750Ghz and the memory is running at 196Mhz still with default cooler (temps staying under 50c!) cant see me getting much more out of it really dont think my ram overclocks well.

Also cool and quiet was disabled the second after installation ..same with the nforce4 firewall :)

Great chip you've got there. If only I had been so lucky when I got mine.

Get yourself a cheap but decent water cooling set sometime. I plan to soon as well but till then my AC freezer pro 64 will do till then ;).

All the best with your journey man........ ;)

2.7Ghz @ 1.6v. Im 24/7 @ 2.64Ghz @ 1.55v. Heat was fine at 1.6v but I felt safer @ 1.55v. Can't be assed changing sig as I'll have a new chip next week.

I quite like it too :D its like getting a 2005/06 version of my XP2500 :D

just looking at heatsinks but amazed by the lack of heat it seems to be generating although for some reason really not trusting the temp readings on the board EP 9NPA+ think ill get one of those AC freezer 64 pro things ..especially considering they gone down to £10 !

I recommend it ;) Great bang for buck cooler. It destroys AMD's shady offerings and only for £10

I was @ 51'C full load while @ 2600Mhz @ 1.5vcore with Stock Heatsink/Fan. With AC Freezer pro I was at 45-46'C @ 1.6vcore @ 2700Mhz. It would be cooler in the winter too. Great cooler.

Excellent. I bought a Connect3D x1800xt and a 3700 (KAB2E) last week (both on offer now...typical :) ). Currently running @2.6 stock volts & retail cooler - around 50C full load...all nice and stable. Gonna order an AC Freezer Pro while its on offer :D

Nice machine man. ;)

AC freezer will do you proud. Watch your fingers on the fins though as I sliced my finger on one of them. Be careful.

KAB2E ;) I've seen a lot of good clocks with that stepping. Lets hope you've hit a great week. Seems it so far :D.

Whack that KAB2E up tpo 2.8ghz, you know you want to :) Mine is at [email protected]. Temps right now idle 34c max was last week in the heatwave and trust me my house is hoooooooot and it reached 57c when I ran S&M but that was very, very hot ambient temps plus the weather.

Michael

Bet i can beat 2.8Ghz! :) just wondering how much id have to do to get to 3Ghz ..ram and a better cooler probs :)

Just was going to order a an ac freezer 64 and the total with postage is £21.10 £8 postage for a single heatsink must weigh a ton.

I'm a newb when it comes to overclocking so I've been holding back :) I did try 2.7 on stock vcore yesterday - it seemed stable but i didn't do much testing. Whats the max safe temp would you say on the retail hs/fan? I've been trying to keep it under 50C.

Edit: Your right Mike - 8 quid postage  You don't want that thing falling off onto your gfx card lol.

This is what I'd do. Try 2.8ghz on 1.45volts. Run Prime95 for a bit and see if it is ok. You can run an extended 8 hour test later. If the 30 minute 1 hour Prime95 is not stable increase the vcore to 1.475 and do the same. Try and keep your temps under 55c. Might be hard with a stock cooler, take the side case off if temps get too hight and your cooling is not up to it.

Well my tcase max was 57'C and the highest I went was 51'C. Ran it that for two days till the freezer pro came. If I was having to wait any longer I'd have went back a few Mhz to keep me at 50'C.

If your over 50'C like upto 55'C as Ghuraba suggests and have no shutdowns or critical errors then you should be ok. Me personally would keep it about 52'C Max and thats it.
