Hi, I've had my PC running a little over a year now and I'm happy with it. When I first put it together I remember overclocking upto 4.0ghz just because I wasn't really fussed about it and didn't see the need to overclock.

After a year everything is working fine, still as fast as when I first put it together. But out of interest and getting bored I decided let's squeeze a bit more out of it. So I went into the BIOS and changed the clock speed and realised that I only set it to 3.9ghz before because I can't set the multiplier any higher than 39!

So how do you guys get 4.4ghz out of yours??

BTW, I am very much a novice when it comes to overclocking!!!

are you using latest bios for that board?

it should go higher than 39,are all turbo ratio's set to auto?

turbo ratio should be ok on auto and just set 44x cpu multi

works fine on my gigabyte z77 but might be different for gigabyte z68

so could try turbo ratio's all on 44x

I know that I need to set the multiplier to x44 but it won't let me go any higher than x39!

If I set the turbo ratio to x44 doesn't that mean it will only be running at 4.4ghz when turbo is on??

yeah,it will shoot to 44x if stressed

there might be issues with that board and an ivy cpu

can't remember if its a bios issue or not, there's no beta bios's either over on tweaktown for that model idk why

When I got the board I had to update the BIOS to F7 just to get the i7 working.

So do you think it can't be done on this board?

idk unless you try things

the turbo ratio will be just as good if it goes to 44x and above,

yeah you will because its a sandybridge board so latest bios for the ivy to work

Just had a quick look at Gigabyte's website. Should I just stick the newest BIOS on and see what happens?

It's been a while since I last flashed the BIOS. I know I used Qflash but can someone remind me of the steps just to make sure I get it right.

you can flash back and forth to any bios

use a usb memory stick,download/extract the bios to it and then boot into bios and enter qflash (f8 or end I think) and flash from within the bios

Just had a look and I was looking at the wrong board earlier!! The only BIOS available is F8 which only adds USB 3.0 compatibility. Does this mean I'm stuck with x39?

Another thing, I just went into the BIOS and checked the system. Now I've set the multiplier to x39, then I tried changing the turbo multiplier but I can't so that's also stuck on x39! Then when I went into the system it showed that the CPU is running at 3.5ghz and turbo at 3.7ghz!! That's just the stock speeds!! Why hasn't it changed it? It still says x39 in the settings!!

sometimes the bios's stick,as in not applying the settings

atleast on z77 gigabyte boards sometimes,no idea on z68

I would update to f8 bios first then try entering above 39x multi and see if it applies, you can always flash back f7 if you want to

Just flashed the BIOS. Exactly the same! Max x39 but system shows stock clock frequency. And I also disabled the windows logo on start up (I'm guessing that's the logo that shows up before the password screen) but even that still showed up! Makes me think the BIOS isn't doing anything I'm asking it too!!!!

update, stasio said you have to be on uefi bios, not award bios

he's gonna mod a bios for you to try, soon as he posts it ill link it here

here

Hi wazza,

no need to mod,I found U1a original from GB:
http://www.mediafire.com/?q7aabk06k1pbav8

MUST be flashed in DOS with FLASHEFI.
Folow the end sequence in BIOS (asking for off Power).

Here is feedback:
GIGABYTE Latest Beta BIOS

So tell him,he will lose LLC and some other minor function,as present hardware on board didn't support UEFI BIOS.
Also if he want to flash back (AWARD BIOS):
http://www.mediafire.com/file/44l4l5...r2/efi2awd.zip

(Note) Some GIGABYTE utilities are not supported under UEFI BIOS architecture. Please remove Smart6, Dynamic Energy Saver, Smart TPM, and Touch BIOS utilities before updating the BIOS.

Anything else,let me know.

I made modded U1a .........and he can flash also from rev.2.0 Ua9 as is newer BIOS (by date)
Rev.1.0 - U1a - 05/09/2012
Rev.2.0 -Ua9 - 03/06/2013

Now all flash can be done with Q-Flash (or @BIOS).

Waw, thanks guys but this sounds very complicated for me!!! I don't know how to flash the BIOS without qflash!!! I don't want to risk screwing up my system.

I'm not sure either,

I think you have to create bootable Usb stick with the original u1a BIOS and flashefi on it,then once done use normal qflash to update to modded BIOS
