hey

i just started to oc my 3800 x2,

never done anything like this before so i read the guide and it saysput ** multiplier to 10 then up the fsb, thenup the multiplyer later

my multiplyer only goes up to 10 :p so should i drop to 5 then do the fsb step?

quick reply plz

thx

The CPU is multiplier locked so it won't go above 10. There is another multiplier set to 5. this is the one you should lower.

Is your X2 OEM or retail?

Ignore that, you don't want to be changing the CPU Multi at all.

1 - set HT / LDT Multi to 4x (maybe 800), this will default to 5x (maybe 1000). This is important!
2 - set memclock value (the RAM speed) to 166 MHZ (maybe displayed as 333).
3 - raise FSB. When instability occurs, up the VCore a bit.

Make sure you are testing with two apps at the same time to properly load the dual core. Use SuperPi and Prime95.

Look here for ideas. There may be somebody with the same setup to you, so you can use their settings (although with caution!). Ask if you aren't clear on anything before you start. Give me some feedback in that thread when you're done and I'll put you in the table :)

it retail but i have freezer 64 on it

btw have asus a8n sli Deluxe board

EDIT i put premium instead of deluxe :p

runing prime95 and 32mb superpi

cpu is at 52C and mobo is at 39C
too warm?

now that i at this what my next step?

my mem at 333 should i put that to 400? and what should i do with the ht multiplier, leave at 4X?

edit also any way i can get anything more out of it?
thx

Don't increase the mem divider! If you're going over 250 FSB, you have to lower the HT multi to 3x. If you have CPUZ (if you don't, then get it), in the memory tab, if RAM speed goes over about 210-220, lower the RAM divider.

Temps seem a bit high to me. What VCore do you have it on now and what is your case cooling setup (other than the Freezer 64)? My 3800+ is on 1.4V @ 2500 (as in the table) and maxed out the temp is 45C. It's generally lower than that, but the air temp is fairly high at the moment.

// EDIT // Forgot to comment about the VCore question. You should really put more than 1.5 V through the CPU without being very careful with your temps. The higher VCores (see table) have water or phase change cooling.

Set the HT Multiplier to 3x.
52c is fine, I would try to keep it below 60c.
I would try to not go above 1.55V

Just keep increasing the HTT until it's unstable

60C is far to hot for day to day running. There is no reason that it needs to go that high. If you end up putting so many Vs through the chip to make an overclock stable that you're getting those sort of temps, then you've reached the max for your chip and you should back off really.

vcore is at 1.5
250fsb
4x HT

mem frequency is at 208
mem timings as of cpuz:

2.5
3

5
10

COOLING

P180 i have my 2 hdds in the top hdd rack, thin i should move them to the botttom were psu is kept so i get better flow to mobo ? will this help temps any?

2 120mm ambers (full speed) and the 3 fans that come with p180 ( all on low)
zalman ZM-NB47J on northbridge but had to take of a few if the fin things so gfx would fit

Edit i have TOLEDO core jus so u no, the top clockers all seem to be manchester bar the odd 1

Hmm you shouldn't need 1.5V to get 2500 MHz! You can probably drop that back slightly if you were going to stay at that clock.

If you're going higher, lower the HT Multi to 3x and you should be good to go. What RAM do you have btw?

ram is 1gb Corsair XMS3200C2PT

if i drop the voltage a little will that make a big diff to temps? i not gonna go any higher at this temp (52C load)

also should i try set memory to 1T?

Edit got volts to 1.475 ant 2.5ghz
what should i do with mem at 2T?
thx

Yes you should definitely do that. You get a marked improvement in games and in benching.

I have that RAM, it's good stuff. I think the default settings are 2-3-3-6 for it, but if it's stable with the 5, it's fine. Try lowering the 2.5 though and test to ensure stability. What voltage do you have the RAM on? Corsair say 2.75 is good.

If you can drop the VCore and it's still stable, then do so - you should be able to go to 1.45ish (see table) at least. This will reduce your temps a reasonable amount.

// EDIT // Be sure to post in the 3800 overclocking thread later, so I can add you to the table.

i didnt mess with the memory timings cos i dont actually no how they work i jus did fsb an vcore

the momory volts is set to auto and i cant get the volts below 1.475 reboots when windows loads password screen

i will put memory to 1T

and try for 2 3 3 5 timings (tho no clue what these numbers mean :p)

will get back to u
