Overclocking 4690k Devils Canyon HELP!

Dougal,

Absolute legend dude. Turned all the settings on my mobo to your outline guidance. The only one I couldn't find was ring ratio. Aside from that I have switched over to Aida64 as I've heard prime95 dislikes haswell chips. Much better numbers. Running for an hour or two now and in hitting top end temps of 70-73 no stability issues and looks like there is room for improvement. I will be posting results of what I can knock the vcores down to to try and reduce temps etc and have it running as a 24/7 overclock. Thank you all for your help I am very happy with results so far guys. Much appreciated.

Glad to be of help!
Ring ratio is hidden in 'Advanced CPU settings' or something- one of the sub-menus in the MIT section anyway (short of piling into my BIOS to have a look...). But don't worry too much about that for now- core speed gives more performance anyway!
You probably can get away with less vcore- as said before, knock it down a notch at a time- but as you said you got 4.6gig on 1.18v then I'd imagine somewhere near 1.20v for true stability on a 24/7 OC.

Good to hear it's going well!:D

Also, any particular reason why you went for Z87 board not Z97?
Unless you already had the mobo, of course...

Will work fine, but the newer chipset would have been the best way to go (will also take the Broadwell chips when they come out).

I only really went for the Z87 option as I got an amazing deal on the Gigabyte Z87-UD4h. Was supposed to be £150-160 but I got it at £80 from amazon warehouse deals, All original packaging all it was missing was the driver CD. Tried to keep costs down for my build. But then I ended up reinvesting that money elsewhere in the build aka GTX 770 etc.
