Hi, I've bought a new sapphire 4870 512 last week and I ran Auto-Tune and the outcome was that the gpu clock went up from 750 to 830 and memory clock went up from 900 to 915.Is this any good as in will I notice change?
Or maybe I should try and go a bit further on memory clock ? If yes what tool should I use to check if its still stable ? That one from CCC (test custom clocks?) ?? or something else like-goin up in 5s and then playing cod4 for 20 mins and so on ??

My specs
amd x2 3800+ 2.2ghz
2x1gb ocz pc6400 800mhz
asus m2n sli deluxe
sapphire 4870 512mb
psu 500

Thanks for any replies :)

I generally find Auto-Tune in ccc a bit optimistic and have to dial the clocks back a bit. On a 4870 would have thought the the core overclock is better than the memory as its gddr5 you have loads of bandwidth anyway.

Personally use furmark to test if its stable.

Ive ran furmark for about 20ish minutes and the temperature was 69/68 C (i ticked both of them boxes). Am i supose to run it for more than that ? plx some instructions :)

Furmark stable for 20 minutes is decent and the 4870s can run very hot so ~70 C is fine. Now just play some games like normal and see if there are any crashes. If none then its stable for what you do.

my 4870 has that quiet cooling system or whatever its called aswell,
I will have to put a fan in anyway, my case gets quite hot so hopefully this will increase the air flow

the cooler similar to the TOXIC????

what % you running the fan at? it shouldn't run at those temps listed above. unles you sit in an oven with no other fans in your case and poor airflow!!!!! :D

yah the one that looks almost like toxic :) when I did that test the fan was set at 40% , now I changed it to 50% and I will have to run furmark again.
well I have 1 big fan at the back of my case and that is pretty much it, I want to put another one beneath gpu or somewhere else to improve the air flow which as you can see is not very good :(

mine is @ 40% and never noticed it go above 52deg on full load playing BF2 or FarCry2 for well over an hour.

but my machine does have two 120mm fans and a small 80mm fan on the side. Aided with an AFP7 CPU cooler to help blow everything cool.

Well I know this is an old thread but just in case anyone else finds it as I just did... the mem and core clock speeds that magicroundabout mentioned are PERFECT!!

Thanks magic!

800/1000 gave me a 100% stable overclock and my games literally feel smooth as can be... I can move my mouse about erratically without a single judder. My 4870 since it idles at 80oC but I picked up a secondhand ZEROtherm CoolMaxx 2000 and can OC to 800/1000 with a load temp of 49oC.
