Overclocking 8800GTS using nTune

I have a problem with nTune and overclocking. I have ForceWare 97.02 and nTune 5.05.18.00 installed. When clicking on the Performance section for the GPU and try change the radio button option to "manual settings", it doesnt do anything. Actually, both radio buttons have a green dot in the middle (as if both are selected) but I cannot move the sliders. There doesnt appear to be an "ok" or "apply" button on the page either. If I use ATITool to set a frequency, then go into nTune, the sliders can be changed and set. However on reboot its back to "factory settings" and I cannot overclock using nTune until I first set a clock manually in ATITool. Anyone got any ideas?
 
Another point, and Im starting to think its the drivers. I set brightness in the control panel down to 43% from the default 50% but again, after a reboot the brightness is back to 50% BUT it still shows as 43% in the control panel. If I click on the slider just once, you can see the brightness go down. Anyone else able to test this for me? Just requires 1 reboot :P
 
don't bother with Ntune, its simply crap, used it few times before and never had any success, use coolbits ;)
 
right then, still woudln't touch Ntune, use something else until coolbits version appears for 97.02s ;) easyrider might have something info. for you since hes the only person i remember using 8800, and i assume its overclocked
 
Thing is I can overclock using ATITool no problem (630core and 2ghz mem) but I just wondered if this is a problem on my pc or if its a problem with nTune that everyone is experiancing. Id rather not have to run ATITool if I can get nTune working, just 1 less background process.
 
all im gonna say is ntune is the likely problem cause it sucks, ATItool should be better and hell it works, maybe a compatability problem between ntune and G80
 
nvidia have made it that you now have to have nTune installed to overclock nvidia graphics cards, i also think it is needed to monitor temps :(

think its drivers 96.xx and above which have this enforced :(
 
Coolbits 2 did nothing for me on 97.02's, still told me to use nTune. Thats the only reason I installed it. Pah! Coming from a x1900xt, all the problems I am finding with the ForceWare drivers, Id rather go back to ATI :(

Why bother OC this card atm, it is fast enough to handle all games currently available with everything maxed and not even break into a sweat. It is such a new card and graphics chip I would wait and see and oc it in future if you need to.

Some of us are enthusiasts, some of us like to see how far we can push hardware, just because we can. I have been doing this a long time (overclocking) and im not about to stop now just because its "fast enough". I wouldnt be a geek if i stopped :p
 
I get exactly the same thing with my 8800GTS.

Anyone know a way to get rid of this disgusting control panel that nVidia have deemed to inflict on us in these 97.02's? How do I change it back to the old style?

Btw I quite like SysTool for overclocking both CPU/GFX and to graph/monitor temps.

Totally understand, but the card is so new you don't actually have the proper tweaking tools for it yet, or even proper drivers, you are relying on ATI tools which in itself isn't going to be stable. I'm not saying not to overclock, but personally without the proper tools or drivers I am waiting.

ATITool overclocks the card fine and runs perfectly stable, the point of what I want to achieve is to get the overclocking working in the nvidia drivers so I dont have to run multiple programs to achieve my end result. I like to run as few background processes as necessary. I know the drivers arent the greatest but I dont accept that "we dont have proper drivers" as nVidia should have made sure they released proper drivers for the launch. I know im living in a dream world on that one but its just my viewpoint. I have heard about some ForceWare X drivers that are going to be released next week, no real details on them but I hope the rumour is true as I keep finding more and more bugs with these 97.02's.
 
I tried using ati tool on my 8800gts last night and its reporting 518 on core with 380 on memory whats that about? the memory is out? help
