Overclocking a 6300

Could anyone recomend any simple over clocking guides to someone who is computer illiterate ? (I mean a total computer spaz!)

I have read the stickies and to tell you the truth I can't make head nor tail of a lot of it, or differenciate what applies to me and what doesn't.

Here is my rig;

C2D E6300 @ 1.8 w/ AC 7 Pro
Gigabyte S3
GeiL 6400 (2x512) 800mhz
Radeon X1950XT 256mb
Hiper 580w PSU

Everything running at default atm.

This may sound cheeky as I am pretty new here and I don't really bring much to the table as far as knowladge on over clocking goes, but would someone mind helping me out and give me some general pointers.

I'd Like to up the CPU to 2.4Mhz, I don't know where to begin.
As far as RAM goes, recomended timings are 4-4-4-12 @ 1.9V-2.3V

I obviously don't want to punch above my weight and I would like to keep this OC as simple as possible. Could I make all these changes through Easytune 5 ? What programs do you recomend I use to check stability post-over clock ?

Apologies if this is like the 20'000th post like this you've read and had to deal with.

Thanks for your time!

Umm, I was thinking about posting the same question, I've read the beginner's guide about 5 times but I still don't quite know what to do :o I too would like to overclock a E6300.

In fact, This may sound silly, but what prevents somebody in the know setting up an overclocking service? ie, I send you my RAM, mobo + CPU, you overclock it to whatever level (if possible) and send it all back. Obviously you'd have to trust the person as you may just be scammed :D But I would seriously pay someone to do it for me, as I have no clue really about these sorts of things. I'm obviously not the only one :)

since if they provide that service and your motherboard fails a month later, who caused it, the manufacturer's dodgy components, the overclockers excessive overclock, or you messing around with it lol. The ovefclocker in question would need to have serious disclaimers since the very overclokcing he provides would void any manufacturer warranty

i was also like that after reading the guide, but i messed about with the bios settings and within a week i knew what i was doing. Just experiment with things, just dont touch any voltage settings until you know whats what. which wont take long

I have a GA-965P-S3 i had never really overclocked but its not hard on these go in the MB Intelligent Tweaker bit, first is to set your System Memory Multiplier down to the lowest setting which is 2 if memory servers correct, this will put your ram on 533mhz.

My memory is Geil Ultra Low Frequency ddr800 stuff i had to put the Dimm Overvoltage Control on +3 and FSB OverVoltage on +1 you will have to tinker with that side if you get booting problems.

Enable CPU Host Clock Control then under will be lit up this is where you put the fsb side, i put it up slowly to start with so for example putting this on 300 that will give you 300x7 so 2.1 gig(if you on a 6300 like me) Setting it too 400x7 gives you 2.8 and will leave your ram running at 800mhz as it should be this is what i normally use my 6300 on most of the time.

I left a program called orthos running for a good 12 hrs to make sure all was stable. I never had to adjust the cpu voltage even hitting 3 gig which i am more than happy with.

One more thing set your cpu cooler to be running on full in the bios all the time too thats in pc health status i just disabled the fan speed control method, you will soon know as the artic 7 goes really noisy.

As said above though you overclock at your own risk!!

I was thinking about getting the same setup (S3, E6300, GeIL Ultra Low Latency) so this will help me a lot in the future. Thanks. :p
