Overclocking a 780TI, first time!

Hi everyone, I have decided to overclock my Inno3D ichill 780ti whilst I await the 980ti's to come out! This would be my first overclock on an nvida card so am just looking for a little guidance...

So when under stress or 100% load my card currently hits...

1.175v

1201Mhz on core boost (1085 normally I think) but apparently should be 1150Mhz on the boost, WTF?

3600Mhz on the memory.

What is the best software to use for nvidia? What would be safe temperatures for this card and what sort of voltage should I look at for safeness? About 1.200v?

Boost clocks vary, I personally use MSI Afterburner.

High 70s I guess should be fine (your aftermarket cooler is pretty solid).

No need to start pushing voltages unless you hit your max OC on stock voltages (will keep the temps down).

Start with the core, something like +50mhz and move up in +25mhz.

Try Unigine Heaven on loop and watch temps and for artifacts.

If temps are ok and no artifacts move up your OC. Then when you start seeing artifacts move back 1 level and start on the mem.

I think there's an overvolting guide somewhere on the forums let me link that to (this is just a general guide I posted here for OCs)

Edit : here it is http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18545210

I think though don't go there yet until you learn the ropes

Cheers,

I don't really want to overvolt to be honest. I would probably be happy with about 1275-1300 on the core if I can get that. If not then I won't overvolt, I don't feel comfortable doing that really.

If the boost on my card should be 1150Mhz but is actually hitting 12.01Mhz is this a sign that the previous owner changed something on the card?

Probably not, as I've seen a few reviews (and from personal experience on other cards) boasting a higher boost clock than what is mentioned in the specs.

You probably got a good chip imo.

I am lazy when overclocking and usually just start from 100mhz+, never had a problem and most of my GPUs can do a lot more than that. Doubt you will have any problems (be sure to check temps though).

Thanks again,

so far I have 1.225v but only managed to get an extra 23 on the core taking it to 1225. Temperature only hit 60c.

Voltage wise where is the danger zone? Is 1250v safe or should I avoid that etc?

I can't get it above 1200Mhz on stock volts of 1.175v.

1225Mhz I need 1.225v and see a very millisecond glitch or artifact. Might not even be an artifact but I notice it very minimally, it's there for a split second. 60c is the top temp at that volt.

so based on that if I went to 1.250v I should be ok as I won't likely hit above 65c-70c?

Sorry for the double post.

Had a few crashes on anything above 1230v on the card! I have managed to get stable on +24 on the core to give me a boost to 1225Mhz, with 1.230v and a top temperature of 60c.

Onto the memory, does that seem a decent place to be at with the core clock?

I wouldnt put volts in it imo. the 780/ti cards were hot as it was the last I remember

Oh my lord, volts . heat ? on a 780ti , get out of town :)

780ti's love volts (unless the asics really low)

Firstly , ditch Afterburner and Use EVGA PX.

Next find a decent bios that unlocks 1.212 volts (or more if the card allows) and the power limit .

You say you had 1.230v , where did you read this from ? , if it was from afterburner then its lying to you.

Well I added +55mV to afterburner on the core voltage. I assumed this meant I was then on 1230mv as the stock volts is 1175mv! So afterburner is fibbing and hasn't actually added any volts it seems :D

My asic is 77.9.

So I have now added +25mv to the volts on evga precision but when under stress it still only shows 1175mv and not 1200mv, all I see there is overvoltage, overboost and KB Boost, which should be used for applying a voltage change?

Actually hold on, is the card voltage locked to 1175mV perhaps?

Firstly activate overvoltage , then test again.

Oh and activate Kboost, this will max out the clocks and voltage, you dont need to keep it on , its just useful to see what the volts and max boost are.

I've activated overvoltage, added 25mV to it but when under stress it still only hits 1175mV and not the 1200mV I am trying to set

Where should I look in GPU-Z?

VDDC says 1.1750v.

I assumed that 780TI's would let you go up to 1212mV before you needed to flash the BIOS or change anything specific? At this point I will be happy to get my card to 1200mV but it just doesn't seem to register when I make changes!
