Hey guys. Had my old q6600 sat at stock clocks for years. But it did its job and still is as a 2nd machine and my nephew plays games on.

After replaceing the the stock cooler with an antic freezer pro. I am looking at some advice with overclocks.

The motherboard with it is Asus p5ne sli and i updated the bios to the latest one.

So really just looking for some settings to go with. Its current stock clock is 2.4ghz. So any advice and things to try would be really helpful.

download cpu-z and have a look to see what revision the chip is.
its either a G0 revision or B3, the G0 are better as they are cooler and need less power.
also in here have a look at the vid of the chip. a low vid, will overclock higher,

boot into bios, raise the vcore (cpu voltage) by a couple of levels,
your Q6600 has a rated fsb of 1066mhz.
you divide this by 4, so 1066 / 4= 266, (this is your fsb)
your Q6600 has a multiplier of 9, so 266 x 9 = 2400mhz or 2.4ghz your stock speed.

raise your fsb from 266 to 333, so 333 x 9 = 3000mhz or 3.0ghz.
unlink the ram, so in the ram divider, it will dispaly the ram speed.
leave it as close to stock speed as possible, eg. 667, 800mhz etc...
leave the ram timings alone.
most G0 revisions can reach 3.0ghz with just a little bump in the vcore.

download Intel burn test and/or prime95 and run a stress test. to test it,

there is loads of info on this forum, just do a search in this overclocking and cooling forum

Thanks very much man for the info. I will give that a blast as soon as i can. Been toying with the idea for ages. Fingers crossed it will work.

This is a b3 version by the way.
