hey all,

Just after some pointers on how to clock my q6600 to around 3ghz. Been an AMD blokey for far to long so my knowledge of intel is nadda.

I've got a Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R to tinker with so if any one out there has the same set up, what do i need to change. So far i've changed the vcore to 1.35'ish and set the multi to 9 and the fsb to 333.. and it boots fine but prime fails instantly.

My ram is Crucial Ballistix 8500 so it should be up for the task.. but do i need to change its voltage.

Or is there anything else i'm missing?

Cheers

Oh yeah, its being cooled by water so temps should be manageable

Vcore at 1.4V and RAM at 2.2V is what I would do.

Should be fine then you can start to go higher. :)

I have the same board as you.

the q6600's do like a bit of juice to get going

Here's my bios setting when I was at 3.1

.

Watch out for pumping too much juice through the FSB & (G)MCH. Mine does not seem to like it.

Make sure PCI express is set to 100 not Auto

Set your Ram multiplier to 2 initially to rule that out as a problem

Diasble all the non essential stuff on the Advanced Bios Features, like C1E TM2, EIST, Virtualisation, No Execute Memory protect.

I think your ram needs 2.2v, make sure you add +.4 to the ddr2 overvolt,
default is 1.8v.
So far i've got it stable @3.2 with 1.437 v core in bios (1.328 cpu-z),MCH +1.

dumb question coming up...

where is the ram voltage setting. I've got the +0.4.. but cant see where to set it to 2.2 ?

cheers

thanks for the replies folks.. much appreciated

I,ve set the system memory multiplier to 2.50 as in the screenshot above. Whats this doing?

What should I be aiming for with this ram?

The ram in the screen shot is running @863mhz, your ram is rated @1066
you can change the multiplier to get closer to that figure.
Your ram could probably go higher with some tweaking.
