Overclocking an i5-2500k

Ok, have just set my memory at 1600MHz using the XMP profile, it then seemed to reset my CPU to stock speed so I bumped it up again to 4.2GHz, so now the memory is running at 1600MHz and CPU at 4.2GHz.

But it appears the CPU VCore has gone up to 1.345v. All of the voltages are set to 'Auto' in the BIOS. Do I need to change this VCore setting manually? If so, could you suggest what I should change it to?

Also, the DRAM Voltage is 'Auto' set at 1.500V, again, is this a problem and should I change it manually?

Another thing that I'm not sure about is Load Line Calibration, again set to 'Auto', does this one need changing at all? All of these settings are in the voltage menu in the BIOS btw.

All of the voltage options are set to 'Auto' or you have to configure them manually, so I'm not sure what to do with regards to them, along with the above, so just left everything set to 'Auto'.
 
well , 1.5V for memory is perfect :)
- Recommended memory voltage is 1.50v, so make sure to run your memory at 1.50v, higher than 1.60v could limit lifespan of the CPU

CPU Vcore, this I'd set to offset or manual, and see how low it can be while still stable? It's hard to say what this will be, as each chip is different - 1.32 or so I'd guess.
 
i would just leave it as is for now and test your system out over the weekend making sure you don't get blue screen

prime95/intelburntest are good but they don't give you a good representation of real world performance ive had prime95 running for hours stable but only to fire up a game or yourtube and get blue screen on past systems

also by looking at them screen shots you have post you still have spread spectrum enabled (thats why your cpu is running at 4.19ghz) that can cause blue screens and you have c state/c1e enabled its a power saving feature it drops you cpu clock down at idle you may need to disable that if you want higher they also cause blue screens (in my experience anyway) you idle temps will increase a little tho

In my BIOS it has a menu option called Motherboard Intelligence Tweaker, which is where you do all of the overclocking.

In the first screen in the M.I.T it shows you the settings of your components and the voltages. I set the CPU VCore at 1.32v and then noticed the DRAM voltage was running at 1.668v in the M.I.T main screen, so set that at 1.32v, thinking it would make it run at 1.500v instead, but it just made it so the computer wouldn't boot and reset everything to defaults.

So I changed all the settings back to the OC settings I had, 4.2GHz CPU, 1600MHz RAM, 1.32v on the CPU VCore and changed the 'Auto' voltage setting on the DRAM voltage to 1.500V and now in the M.I.T main screen the CPU VCore is showing at 1.284v and the DRAM voltage is showing at 1.548v. Are these settings ok?

Also, smithy83, how do I disable spread spectrum and c state/c1e? Not sure where they would be in the BIOS to be honest.
 
Yes those settings look good, if its stable like that I'd be happy :)
In MIT > advance freq. settings > advanced CPU core features > C1 state

Just a question regarding Core Temp and CPU-Z readings. I'm still running the CPU at 4.2GHz/1.32v and the memory is still running at 1600MHz/1.500v.

When opening Core Temp and CPU-Z, it seems to give fluctuating readings of the CPU voltage. For example, in Core Temp it was sitting at 1.0107v and then it could just jump up to 1.356v and then instantly jump back down to 1.0107v. Then again it will jump up to something random like 1.207v, then back down again.

It's not happening as regularly in CPU-Z, it's showing as 1.296v pretty solidly but I think it has jumped up above 1.3v once or twice.

The temps in Core Temp are as follows (these readings are only from the last ten mins or so, mostly idle or just web browsing, no CPU stressing tasks):

Core #0: Low - 26°C, High - 34°C
Core #1: Low - 25°C, High - 36°C
Core #2: Low - 30°C, High - 39°C
Core #3: Low - 28°C, High - 39°C

Also, the load on each core seems to be fluctuating a lot, jumping from around 2%, 6%, 9% and I think the highest I have seen, when just browsing the web and such, is about 12% or so.

I mean, I have been using the computer with these overclocks for about a day now (although only had it switched on a few hours this evening since last night) but there hasn't been any issues/crashes etc. And I have played some games and I haven't experienced any issues in-game either.

Are those Core Temp/CPU-Z readings a problem or is it not an issue?
 
This is normal if you've used Vcore offset instead of manual Vcore.

The voltages will be automatically dropped to reduce power consumption when the CPU isn't under load. Goes hand in hand with Intel Speedstep.
