Overclocking an i7 920 D0 - 4.7GHz

that is bizarre

i saved each one after testing for stability

anyway

the voltages for 4ghz should be set in the profile still

i would personally try upping the BCLK to the following values [and stress testing using prime]

BCLK = 180 for 3.8GHz using turbo mode
BCLK = 190 for 4GHZ using turbo mode

assuming turbo mode is disabled [will say at top of the extreme tweaker]
then add 10 to each of the BCLK values

BCLK = 190 for 3.8GHz not using turbo mode
BCLK = 200 for 4GHZ not using turbo mode

the voltages should need no adjustments tbh

iirc you had a very good chip that did 4ghz on the same volts as we usually use for 3.6

you should have all the stress testing programes in C:\program files 86\ocuktesting

Im glad that I have a chip that can overclock so very well.

I tried what you said about increasing the BCLK to 190, and when I saved that on an unused profile space and then exited, I then rebooted and the speed was 3.99! :D

I have not tested it in Prime, but will do that soon enough, but im now very happy to have the chip at that speed, I didnt realise that it was that simple :D

Most d0 chips will do 4ghz at around 1.3vcore
So if you did want to push for more i would suggest upping the vcore by two notches for every 5 bclk you add after 4ghz

if you wanted to add a watercooling setup to your rig at any time - the best thing would be to call system support and ask to speak with me

i would sort the loop out for you

i doubt it would give you higher clocks though

been doing a bit of product development at the moment on a new bundle for the site

expect good things - will post up more later :)

right then
got a few days off work,
just having a quick go with this new beta bios and my new ocz blade memory before i go to London for a few days

heres my findings for the BIOS:
the beta bios has allowed me to go to 4.7GHz using a BCLK of 224
so it has raised the max BCLK of the board to 224
it gets into windows - but that is about it

4.66GHZ @ 222BCLK is now 3D benchmarkable using vantage/06/crysis/FC2 etc

the memory divider i WANT [2000MHZ DRAM @ 200 BCLK] still does not work
i have emailed BIOSTAR about it to see if they have a fix - will report back when i get a reply

my findings for the Memory:
although i am unable to get the 2000MHZ divider to work - the memory is working all the way up to 1800MHZ by increasing the BCLK

the memory is running at 1600MHZ on my 4.2GHz profile

oczblade1600.jpg

the timings are insane and beat my reaper kit hands down
BLADE @ 1600MHZ @ 7-7-7-18 1T
REAPER @ 1600MHZ @ 8-8-8-26 2T

the board has memtest86 built into the bios - running that - the memory passes at 6-6-6-16 1T !!!, it also passes prime but fails linpack

the timings remain tight at higher speeds too! - just brilliant imo
looking forward to a bios that works with the divider i want so i can get the best out of this memory

am now running my system with all fans on molex - its a lot louder than it was with the zalman controller - but my temps have dramatically changed [and i use my headset so i cant hear it]

i will get the info for you the next free night i get

i am pretty busy at work at the moment - as soon as i get a few mins - i will post up pics of my settings

i am looking at a i7 950 when they come in

hoping its 23 multi mixed with a 200 BCLK should give me 4.6GHz for 24/7 use

and my boards max 222 BCLK should let me hit 5.1GHz :D

saves me dropping a lot of boys on a classified for a possible lower max BCLK

i will do an overclocking thread similar to this one when it arrives

i want the 950 to take advantage of the 23X multi [24 with turbo]

it will be an expensive upgrade for the slight increase and i will probably still run my rig at 4.4GHz 24/7

but it will give me a lot more headroom when overclocking

my 920 is limited at the boards BCLK of 224
but is a great chip with a fantastic memory controller - something which should make its resale value quite high

using 224 on a 24X multi will just be the icing on the cake

i was considering a 975 but cant see me getting muck higher than 5.3GHz
which should in therory be achievable with the 950

[plus. dropping 1000 boys on a chip would be silly]

i will wait until ocuk get stock of the 950 to see how it performs
