Hi all,

I have the above card and wanted to know whether anyone else has one and whats the best over clock they got? Is it a case of push it up until your graphics start to go naff?

Also are there any after market coolers I could pop on as my system is a wee bit warm and that may help cool the card off?

Thanks for your advice in advance ;)

I just used ati tools to clock my x850 xt to 570/620. I just used the scan for max clock and backed off a little when it reached its limit. I kept the stock heatsink on as it did a good job and if you play with the fan setting it runs fairly quiet, but if you want better and quieter cooling then fit one of the zalman vf900's on it.

The X850XT PEs were pretty much at the limit of the card, so don't expect any amazing clocks out of them. As for a cooler for it, as Dale said, the Zalman VF900 is a good one. I used to have the VF700 on mine and it worked a treat, got the 900 on my X1800 and its a very good cooler:)

Hitman can you post a link to the drivers u use please m8?

I can't get 1680 x 1050 with the Omegae drivers and ATI tools?

Or even a link to the basic ATI drivers (none CCC) please?

The ATI drivers are on the ATI website.. Right where the other drivers are, labelled as display drivers only:)

Google for ATI Tray Tools to allow you to change all the options and Google for ATI Tool to allow you to overclock:)

I use the Catalyst driver ATI overdrive software and it works great. My card is the HIS model with the artic cooler and that has happily run at the maximum the driver would allow for well over a year. I have tried ATI Tool but found it pretty poor, during the auto-overclock cycle it would keep going until it locked everytime.

Mine ran at something like 594/619x2 or similar - the max Catalyst would go anyway.

Yeah I think I may return to them tbh..!!

Can anyone post a link for a good cooler for my card pls??? ;)

Get the Zalman VF900. Its one of the best coolers there is and if you upgrade, it will probably fit the new card too:)

Racingralph, how did you manage that may I ask?

With CCC if a push to max or near I can load say COD2 but then I get line flashing across screen and my machine reboots? lol

Maybe I will just put it to the max and work backwards until its stable..! :)

Hi tweakinfreak,

I have a standard x850xt.

I fitted an arctic cooler to it and managed 621 on the core and 596 on the memory - lots of people seem to get better clocks on the memory than me so i must have got a bad batch!

The card idles at 29 and maxes at 55 in total silence!

It's very impressive for an older card and plays oblivion at 1280x1024 with pretty much everything maxed and bloom enabled! Absolutely love the card! :D

Hi GT,

Are we saying then that fitting a cooler (in general) should enable me to push the card hard and get a stable picture from it?

I may purchased one of (top one) these in that case This but there is a "Arctic Cooling ATI 5 Rev.2 (X850 Series) VGA Silencer (HS-018-AR)" but it says for PCI and I have AGP? Will I still be able to fit it?

Thanks for your help ;)

As I said my card is the HIS model with factory fitted arctic cooling. This is way better than the standard cooler and hence why I've just upgraded to the HIS X1900XT with ICEQ3 cooling.

Absolutely honest - with the arctic cooler it runs happily at the maximum frequencies CCC will allow. I believe your problems are down to heat - too much of it. I would suggest an arctic cooler but just bear in mind fitting one voids the warranty - hence why I pay more for the factory fitted models.

Cheers.

Hmm I would have to say thats not strictly true.

My old X800GTO2 (R480 core) could clock on stock volts / cooling to 645/1270. (stable)

That was using ati tool.

I would have thought most could hit 600/600 without issues.

Didn't really get on with the ATI tools so I'm putting CCC back on tonight I may purchase the VF900 and then push it up and see how stable it is!
