Overclocking CPU

I have read and read and read and I am still confused :(

I wanna buy a new GPU to play games but I wanna overclock my CPU first.

Few questions

1. Is my motherboard ok to overclock? (In sig)

2. What could I get it upto? (Have been told about 4Ghz)

3. Should I get a better PSU before I do? Currently got a cheap 650W one that has worked fine for 2 years. Will the extra demand cause problems? (My plan is to get one at the end of the month anyway, should I wait to OC til then?)

Any help appreciated.

1. Unfamilier with the mobo, I wouldn't worry about it though... !

2. The overclock you achieve is heavily dependant on the cooling- the zalman CPU cooler is ample, what's the case air flow like, though ?! A CPU cooler is only as good as the airflow in the case ( simply recycling hot air won't do **** )

3. 650w is loads..., its not in your Sig, what's the brand etc ? Unless its like a £20 PSU I wouldnt worry about it at all. Even overclocked s the CPU doesn't draw that much power - around 150w as a max...

What gpu are you looking at ? To be honest you can run most single cards off 650w however its better to have too much power than too little ! It's safer, too !

( example, so you don't worry... I have a fairly standard 750w running an oc'd I7 3820 and 7970's on crossfire... That's cutting it fine, but it works a treat :)

It is pretty good airflow. All works fine at the moment.

The PSU is EZcool super silent. Only cost about £26 :)

I am looking at getting a 7850/7870.

Okay, I'd personally buy a new PSU, just to be on the safe side.... Though you'd be looking at a similar wattage. And when you do come to overclock keep an eye on temps.

Right I am ready to overclock. Is it as simple as changing the multiplier and seeing what happens, if it doesn't work, up the voltage and try again?

Cheers
