Overclocking For Battfield 4 & COD Ghosts

Hi guy's im wanting to overclock my CPU and GPU for for Ghosts and BF4 as im having to lower the settings quite a lot on both games.

What i wanted to know is am i best overclocking both a little bit, or best just focusing on the Graphics Card ? Ive downloaded precision for my FKA GF670 and had it set at 105% as a test but it made it crash, im wondering what kind of amount i can safley set my graphics card to and if i need to do something more specific ie voltages instead of just percentage.

Regarding CPU my Gigabyte Mobo has a built in overclocking facility but im not sure how good it is, i overclocked it when i first got it by quite a lot but a while back i started getting BSOD so i reverted the settings back to stock (which still occured anyway until i reinstalled W8) and cannot for the life of me remember what i did, i know it wasnt as simple as upping each one to 42 instead of 39 etc

I would really appreciate some help on this
 
You should overclock both, free performance.

The GTX 670 OC is easy and safeas you cannot overvolt it by accident; it's locked. Check out: http://www.overclock.net/t/1265110/the-gtx-670-overclocking-master-guide for Overclock tips. Mine's the 670 OC version and I run mine at +55 core +200 memory, fanspeed goes up to 65% on load with a target temperature of 69c (Custom fan profile). Noise is still alright, not whiny or noticeable as the KFA2 cooler is not a stock cooler even though it's a blower one.

For the CPU, i'll wait for someone with Ivybridge to give you tips.. but you can easily find ivy overclocking guides on the net; don't use the auto-stuff, it overvolts easily and gives insane temps.

Out of interest what speeds have others got out of the 3770K and with what settings ?

Can i expect some decent gain with my Thermalright True Spirit 140 CPU Cooler ?

What Sort of speeds have others OC their 670 GTX to and what settings did you use ?

should get around 4.4 to 4.5ghz easy with that cpu although with that cooler maybe maybe not lol depends on how hwo you chip is just make sure to monitor with hardware monitor and core temp youll be fine
 
I used the master guide posted earlier for the gtx670. Have it stable with GPU clock offset... +101 and Mem clock offset... +525. Temps never go higher that 68 after hours of gaming. It's a good guide, but don't follow the short version.
 
Yeah the long version is the way to go for proper OC.

Nice overclocks there! My 670 only does +55 core, +250 memory (Power target +122%). I could push memory higher but it gives weird heaven crashes so I don't.
 
Firstly dont go too high, 4.6ghz here and BF4 REALLY DOESN'T LIKE IT, I dont get BSOD's just app crashes, whats weird is I can play on 4.4ghz on it now all day, 4.6ghz i get crashes in the first 5-10 mins -.-

It kind of depends on your budget and your case.

And the chip.. some chips need 1.3v to reach 4.5ghz, some need 1.22 like mine. (Along with some Vring increase).

So even if you get the same cooler as I do, h100i for just around 100 pounds, it is no guarantee you will reach high clocks.

If your case has space for a huge air cooler, then you could get that cheaper.. but I personally kind of love AiO watercooling, the tinkerer in me does.

So, give us a budget and your case type, and we can give some suggestions :)
 
With air OR AIO Water cooling units 4.5 is achievable for sure , if you want to go down the air route you will save a few £'s It will perform roughly the same as a Watercooling unit (IF not better) but the trade off is Air coolers imo look fugly, and I had a very bad experience once where a big air cooler somehow came loose from its top mounting prongs, the thing crashed into a GPU with a mighty thud. Somehow the GPU survived but from that moment on I never went air cooling again (This is highly impossible now! the mounting on air coolers is so much better than it used to be, but still its a frightening memory)
 
There is nothing wrong with the True Spirit 140 it is a *very* capable cooler. If you've set a goal of 4.5Ghz then first see what voltage you need to get there and what your temps are like when stress testing before considering whether or not you need to upgrade your cooler.
 
think id rather go Air Cooler to be honest, the NZXT Phantom 410 has all the rubber port things for water cooling but not really soimething id go for.

Use this guide. Basically you up the multiplier, then test, if it crashes, you up the voltages according to the guide. do NOT exceed them though. Go small.

It takes a long time, but you will soon learn whether your CPU needs 1.3v or 1.2v to boot up to windows, and to stay stable.

Every CPU is unique, that is why we cannot tell you in advance.

thanks mate mnuch appreciated, i did have a mate who had it on 4.5 and it was like that for months with this HSF but i had to update my bios to the latest version and it reset my settings at the time.
