Overclocking gpu

From my xfx 4890's i found core for sure

Most gpu's i've had tend to of favoured more core, but up memory also

The xfx 4890's i have are at 1000/1100 now on stock cooling with a modded flashed bios

Did have both core/mem higher but got stability issues unless i had a linear fan setting (hence dropped back down a tad, but that was during the short summer heatwave we had lol)

There are several 4890 pcb layouts, somes bad and ones good, seems the xfx are the good one with no volatge regulator being traded away to save a few quid

Do a search or if needed i'll dig out a post i did about the differing pcb layouts

(offhand i think blue pcb were the worst type, then 2 red versions, one was good other was about as bad as the blue)
 
ye 4 sure its core 5850 core 1000 memory 1200 and the core defo helps performance but if useing a lot of AA in games the memory overclock helps a lot i think exspecially in games like crysis.
 
Sayso, yep air, just plain stock ati cooling

Flashed cards with higher core/mem clocks with the asus fan cooling strat

Works a treat

I would have to say with watercooling i bet there's still a fair bit of go in the cards, they were really a great bang-for-buck buy :)

Which XFX 4890, the 850mhz? or the 870mhz factory overclocked?
 
T'is me

Just in case others are interested its the 875/975 flavour XfX XT

On another forum the lower factory clocked XfX's hit my speeds too, so don't just think it's only the XT's that oc decent (only really different bios settings with the ref designed layout from ati)
